　　The 1997 MY BMW R 80 GS Basic has, at its heart, a four-stroke, air-cooled, 797cc, boxer twin cylinder powerplant paired to a five-speed manual transmission that reaches a maximum power output of 50 horsepower and 61 Nm of torque.

　　In addition, it has standard fittings such as a 40mm Marzocchi telescopic front fork, a BMW Motorrad Paralever rear suspension unit, a front disc brake coupled to a rear drum, a dual seat, passenger grab rails, a high-mounted exhaust system, laced wheels, an analogue instrumentation panel and a steel frame.
