Did You Know You Could Buy A 450 HP Audi RS5 For $40,000?
Did You Know You Could Buy A 450 HP Audi RS5 For $40,000?-April 2024

Sometimes really cool cars come out and, for whatever reason, we forget about them. And then one day, the magic of depreciation takes hold and some interesting opportunities arise. This is the case with the, which was off my radar for awhile, only to reappear and for a great price too.

In 2013, Audi created what I would consider the “gentleman’s muscle car”—the RS5 coupe. Audi crammed a naturally aspirated 450 HP 4.2 liter V8, lifted from the R8 supercar into a comfortable two-door and then bulked out the bodywork to make it looks like it means business. Of course, all that power was put down via Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system, making it pretty easy to live with year round. Unfortunately, it was only available with a dual-clutch automatic.

Starting price at the time was about $70,000 and the model was sold until 2015 making it one of the last German performance cars for sale with a naturally aspirated V8. Now that turbos have taken over, the market for these “old school” rides will start to climb.

Right now you can get a nice RS5 coupe with reasonable miles for right around $40,000. That is a significant chunk of change but it’s similar to what you would pay for a well equipped Mustang or Camaro or even, I dunno... a .

So if you have forty large to spend on something with two doors and an excellent V8 rumble, but don’t want to worry about cold weather traction, take a wide look for a well-sorted RS5 coupe.

2018 Toyota Camry: Here's Why It's Still The Sedan King
This past weekend, my friend and I took a on a 1,700 mile road trip from Michigan to North Carolina to visit—and I know this may shock and surprise some of you—a Jeep junkyard. And while much of the trip was a complete disaster, and arguably pointless, I finally learned...

The 2019 Volvo V60 Is Even Cooler Than Its Plaid Seats
I love the way the layers luxury car fanciness with station wagon usefulness. It might look a little faster than it is, but what the V60 lacks in sheer adrenaline it makes up for in versatility, comfort and safety. Long live the longroofs. (Volvo was kind enough to fly me...

The 2018 Jaguar XF Sportbrake S Is Two Cylinders Short Of Legendary
In my travels I have found few places more ideally fit to open up a car—really open it up, I mean—than Interstate 10 in Texas headed west toward California. The Hill Country gives way to true desert and 80 mph speed limits between Kerr County and El Paso County, and...

At $4,500, Might This 16V 1983 VW Caddy Tee Up Some Good Times?
The seller of today’s somewhat Frankencar VW Caddy says it was a dad and son project. Let’s see if the result, and its price, has you wanting to be its new sire. Depreciation is a hell of a drug. Buy a car on that downward slope and you’ll eventually end...

Buick Has No Idea How To Actually Sell The Regal TourX Wagon
The that Buick. But semantics aside, the automaker and its sales staff are pretty much clueless as to how to actually get new customers into these things. , the TourX is supposed to be GM’s crack at stealing even a little bit of market share away from the Subaru Outback...

At $19,650, Could You Get Caught Up In This 2017 Fiat 124 Spider’s Web Of Intrigue?
There are no two countries more divergent in the reputation for the quality of their cars than Japan and Italy. That didn’t stop them from combining their powers for today’s Mazda-based Fiat Spider. Will its price prove equally unstoppable? It seems that when it comes to the comments on the...
