Record Racer Registration For 2014 Mint 400 Desert Race
Record Racer Registration For 2014 Mint 400 Desert Race-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:28

The 2014 Mint 400 desert race in Las Vegas next weekend has set a new record for entries with 300 total as of this morning, 57 of which are trophy trucks. It's going to be one hell of a field for this year's event.

I spot plenty of rigs based on Fords, GMs, and Rams, along with a bunch of buggies, at least one Jeep, and a .

The Local Motors crew gave me a sparkly Gazoo helmet and promised me a good time if I'd just shut…

"This is an incredible field, maybe the most competitive field in history. Not just in the car count, but in talent. We have several former Mint 400 Champions including Bryce Menzies, BJ Baldwin, Robby Gordon, and Andy McMillin, as well as former and current champions stacked throughout the massive field of different class competitors. This is going to be an incredible weekend of racing," said Mint 400 CEO Matt Martelli.

Between this boost in participation at the Mint, for the SCORE races, and the first official meeting for the just days away I have a great feeling about the future of desert racing.

The 2013 Baja 1000 race may be over and we've seen a few good highlight reels, but true fans now…

The flags drop next saturday, March 15th with the limited class running from 6:00am to 12:00pm, and the "unlimited" running from 1:00pm to 10:00pm, all in Las Vegas local time.

The Mint 400 takes place over four 100 mile laps with rock, silt, and dirt making up a strong majority of the terrain. Being such malleable material, each lap is a different experience for the trucks that usually take at least seven and a half hours to finish the race.

For some reason they also have a model contest which is popular too, this year's "Miss Mint" pageant garnered over .

Forget Pebble, 'International Nationals' Is The Best Car Show In August
As returning readers will recognize, I'm pretty much obsessed with a little 4x4 called the . Mostly because they're just delightful looking, so I've spent all week pawing through these pictures from the biggest annual gathering of the trucks anywhere– generally known simply as "Nationals." Which is kind of funny...

Why The New Ram Trucks Boss Picked A Great & Awful Time To Get Promoted
Reid Bigland is moving from his position as the Head of Ram Truck Brand to take command of Alfa Romeo in the NAFTA region. Taking his place at Ram is Chrysler veteran Robert Hegbloom. When Ram was broken off the Dodge brand to start an empire of its own, basically...

'I Don't Own A Map:' The Epic Tale Of One Terribly Confused Trucker
Last night, a completely unsolicited email came in from a reader who "works at a big commercial trucking company" and wanted to share a particularly ridiculous trucker mishap story. "Did I want to share it with the readers?" Of course! Our storyteller, "they-will-know-my-velocity," swears to the tale's truth. I'm inclined...

Holley's 1967 Chevy C10 Truck Is Restomod Done Right
The good thing about Chevy's C10 pickups is that they are pretty and light. Add more power, a proper suspension and air-conditioning, and you got yourself a fast workhorse. Meet Holley Performance Products' own show truck. It's basically a Corvette under the C10 body. A fuel-injected LS3 small block with...

Can Modern Vehicles Pull Off The 'Derelict' Look?
Can Modern Vehicles Pull Off The 'Derelict' Look?
Spotted this ancient Nissan (Datsun) pickup, beached in an AutoZone parking lot like a sea turtle about to lay eggs. The is weird, even little offensive to my conservative sensibilities. Yet I find it undeniably alluring. Derelicts have been around forever; the idea is you've got a functional (generally upgraded,...

Ford Everest SUVs Spied In Nebraska: More Evidence They'll Be Sold Here?
Ford Everest SUVs Spied In Nebraska: More Evidence They'll Be Sold Here?
A pair of camouflaged s, the small-but-tough SUVs Ford sells in global markets, were spotted testing in Nebraska last week. Seeing these in Colorado can be explained away as "high elevation testing," does an appearance in America's Heartland make a stronger case for their potential entry to the US market?...
