2010 DeLorean Nike Dunk 6.0: First Sprint
2010 DeLorean Nike Dunk 6.0: First Sprint-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:15

Judging by the emails from people dying to know where to buy them, the shoes are this season's hot car-inspired fashion accessory. They go on sale this Friday, but I'm wearing a pair right now, suckas.

As part of the Nike 6.0 Dunk series, the company teamed up with the DeLorean Motor Company to create a stylish shoe inspired by the retro-cocaine-era-cool car. But, just because they've got the DMC label doesn't mean they're magic. Let's get a few misconceptions out of the way:

1. They are dunks, but they will not help you dunk.

2. They say Belfast on them, but they were not made in Belfast.

3. If you can run 88 mph you will not go back in time, but you'll still be running 88 mph. Which is pretty cool.

4. There's no secret pocket for transporting cocaine.

5. They don't auto-lace or auto-dry

Clearly, the shoes are meant as nostalgia for the car itself and not the Back To The Future films (those shoes ), which suits me just fine.

People have been clamoring for Marty McFly's future Nike's from Back to the Future Part II for…

Nike Dunk DeLorean 6.0

Mars Blackmon explains why I can't dunk.

Despite not letting you travel through time or dunk like Russell Westbrook, the shoes are wonderful. Designed to mimic the stainless steel finish of a DMC-12, the "no-sew" material offers a matte finish unlike anything I've seen on a shoe before. It's understated but fantastic.

Out back, the embossed DMC stamp sits above a louvered pattern also inspired by the car cars rear windows. The bottom of the shoe is pure fantasy, with the red-white-and-yellow taillight pattern preserved on the outer sole. Not sure why they didn't grid it off, but it's another example of giving a shout out to the car while still retaining its own unique identity as footwear.

Like the even more limited-edition press box itself, the eyestay's are another slight nod to the DMC-12's iconic gullwing doors. My favorite part is the Belfast stamp on the tongue, a sly reference to the car's being constructed in Ireland and perhaps the only shoe in a long line of shoes named after geographic locations (Mexico 66's, for example) to be named for the Irish town.

It's almost a shame to wear them as the material slightly deforms when you do — the only drawback to the look. Also, if I hadn't unboxed them I could be selling my review pair on eBay right now like , but my integrity is worth slightly more than $349.99.

For just $90, the shoes are cheap, which will make tracking down a pair of the limited edition, 1,000-copy shoes is the real challenge. They're only going to a few select outlets, but because we love you, here's the list:

Also, you can find them at the following Pacsun stores:

Town Center at Easton, Ohio

Lakeside Shopping Center, Louisiana

Menlo Park, New Jersey

Woodfield, Illinois

Grove at the Farmers Market, California

Brea Mall, California

Boca Raton, Florida

Jacksonville Mall, North Carolina

Mall of Georgia, Georgia

Queens Center, New York

You're welcome.

Full Disclosure: Nike/DMC did send me a copy, but I'm not going to sell them as that would be unethical. And keeping them locked up will only make me want to sell them in the future. So I'm going to wear them. Suckas.

For $43,000, This 1985 Ole Sommer Oscar Is Your Morning Danish
Today's contender is a slab-side Cobra replica built by a Copenhagen Volvo dealer and powered by a turbo red block. If that doesn't blow your mind, maybe its price won't either. Okay, we all know that the nickname of Volvo's first-ever car, the ÖV4, was Jakob owing to a prototype...

Mark My Words, This 1997 Lincoln Mk VIII is $6,500
It may not seem like it today, but there once was a time when Lincoln and performance were not mutually exclusive. Today's MK VIII is an example of that era, but will its price have you singing happy days are here again? In a shocking rebuke to both an unexplained...

Hip MTV Study: The Youths Don't Hate Cars After All
At last, sweet vindication. For years I've been fighting against the myth parroted by terrified industry types and lazy Boomer assholes , don't want cars, and only ride buses and their super-cool Razor scooters. Young people DO want cars! How do I know? Because of a new study by the...

Do you remember the movie Ronin and how crazy everyone drove in it? For reasons that will become evident, today's S8 is emblematic of both that film and the lone warrior mythos. Will its price however, prove more of a bonin'? Yesterday's proved to be the Sommer of our discontent,...

Driving Subaru's WRX STI Rally Car Will Melt Every Part Of Your Brain
Rallying is a nuanced art. It takes years of training to get to the level where you can drive an open class car like this Subaru WRX STI with a sequential gearbox and 500 pound feet of torque. But I didn't have years of training. I had hours. And driving...
