Porsche has taken the wraps off two of its most powerful and fastest mid-engine sports models for the 2014 model year – the Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS feature uprated engines as well as minor improvements to the exterior.
The six-cylinder boxer engines fitted in the new top models are based on the 3.4-litre engines from the Boxster S and Cayman S. However they deliver an additional 11 kW so the Boxster GTS is rated at 243 kW while the Cayman GTS packs a 250 kW punch.
In addition, the torque figure has also increased by 10 Nm to 370 Nm in the Boxster GTS and 380 Nm in the Cayman GTS, while the Sport Chrono package comes as standard on both models.
Fitted with the optional double clutch transmission (PDK) and the active Sport Plus button, the 2014 Porsche Boxster GTS sprints to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds, while the Cayman GTS is 0.1 seconds faster. The Boxster GTS equipped with the manual six-speed transmission and can hit a top speed of 281 km/h whereas its coupe sibling can do 285 km/h.
The new top models are the first mid-engine two-seaters from Porsche to be certified according to the Euro 6 standard, and with this measuring method they achieve an overall fuel consumption with PDK of 8.2 l/100 km (9.0 l/100 km with manual transmission).
Both cars come standard with Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), 20-inch alloy wheels borrowed from the 911 Carrera S and wrapped around with 235/35 front and 265/35 rear tyres, as well as blackened bi-xenon headlights along with updated front and rear bumpers. Inside, the models both feature sports seats and leather upholstery with Alcantara trim.
The new 2014 Porsche Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS models are available in South Africa for order as of now, with first units being delivered in May 2014. Basic retail prices will be announced soon.
