2014 Toyota Tundra Airbag May Fail Due To 'Misinstalled Garnish'
2014 Toyota Tundra Airbag May Fail Due To 'Misinstalled Garnish'-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:23

Toyota is recalling "approximately 130,000" Tundra Crew-Max and Double Cab pickup trucks, because they might not have put some interior plastic in correctly. That was enough to raise suspicion that the curtain airbags may not fire like they're supposed to.

Toyota says:

"In the involved vehicles, due to the possible misinstallation of a garnish on the center pillars, the garnish could interfere with the side Curtain-Shield-Airbags (CSA) in the event of a deployment, which may not allow the airbag to achieve its intended inflated shape."

The company isn't aware of "any crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this condition," so at least it looks like they're getting ahead of the mistakes they may or may not have made at the factory.

If you own a 2014 Tundra, Toyota says they'll mail you a notification to bring your truck 'round the dealership. If the techs think your center pillar garnish isn't installed right they'll give you a new one on the house.

Any Tundra drivers notice anything off about their interior paneling?
