The pickup truck has been completely revamped, with a focus on efficiency and creating a "more car-like driving experience" without sacrificing utility or off-road ability. It's also got quite a chrome face!
To make the new Triton smoother, overall dimensions and suspension geometry have been tweaked. Here's Mitsubishi's General Manager of Global Pickup Promotion to break it down:
An all-new aluminum block 2.4 turbodiesel engine with MIVEC variable-valve timing is the top of the range; with about 180 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. Two lower-powered oil burners are also available, along with a 2.4 liter gasoline engine.
2WD and 4WD, along with five and six speed manuals and with a five-speed automatic will all be options depending on which powerplant buyers pick.
says a hybrid version has been confirmed, at least for the Australian market, though they didn't mention a release date.
The 2015 Mitsubishi Triton keeps the same 118" wheelbase its predecessor had but grows just 2" longer and a hair wider. Cabs will come in single, extended, and full four-door sizes.
The truck is going on sale immediately in Thailand, and will eventually be sold in 150 countries according to . The US will not be one of them.
You may not have seen a pickup with Mitsubishi's three-diamond badge on the bonnet in a long time (and the Raider hardly counts) but outside the US, the Triton is a fairly significant to Mitsubishi around the world. this truck is the second-best selling utility vehicle in a market that's consistently a battle ground between Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi. They also claim another derivative of this truck is on the way; wearing Fiat badges.
