2015 Volkswagen Passat Tech Details Revealed
2015 Volkswagen Passat Tech Details Revealed-April 2024
2023-12-14 EST 02:30:50

Volkswagen has released full tech details of the next-generation Passat set to be unveiled online in July ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

New range of engines

The German midsize sedan is said to be powered by a powerful 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 176 kW and 500 Nm of torque. The new BiTDI motor will work with a newly developed seven-speed DSG transmission sending power to the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. A plug-in hybrid model will also be offered, with potential to travel 50 km on battery power alone, and with a potential maximum range of around 966 km.

Based on a stretched version of the MQB platform, the Passat will be up to 85kg lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the use of advanced materials – including high-strength, hot-formed steel and aluminium in certain areas. It will come with a more spacious cabin with additional leg- and head-room, as well as a larger trunk.

New technology

Other new technology to be offered on the new Passat includes the Active Info Display, which replaces the instrument cluster with a fully configurable interactive 12.3-inch TFT display, updated Park Assist, head-up display, revised 360-degree Area View function, as well as a Trailer Assist system providing aid when reversing the vehicle with a trailer attached.

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat will additionally boast a generous list of safety features including Traffic Jam Assist which makes stop-and-go driving more comfortable, Emergency Assist, which can potentially halt a vehicle when the driver is incapacitated, and the latest Front Assist system with City Emergency Braking, which optionally combines both radar and camera sensors to add pedestrian detection.

Further details and first pictures of the Passat will be available in early July 2014.
