2016 BMW R nineT Scrambler: More Specs And Mega Gallery
2016 BMW R nineT Scrambler: More Specs And Mega Gallery-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:16

Last week, we that BMW released a scrambler version of their R nineT roadster. They officially uncovered the bike at EICMA in Milan, Italy today and we have more details and a ton of pretty pictures so you can start your day drooling.

The BMW R nineT Scrambler, as we intimated, is a lower spec version of the R nineT roadster with which it shares its air-cooled 1,170 cc boxer-twin engine. The R nineT’s motor makes a respectable 110 horsepower at 7,750 RPM and a whopping 85.5 foot-pounds of torque at 6,000 RPM which makes the torque jacking on these bikes unlike anything I’ve ever felt (except maybe the Moto Guzzi Griso).

This Scrambler version gets a 19-inch front wheel, deeper treaded tires, and swaps the USD Ohlins from the normal R nineT for a more budget, right-side-up 43 mm front fork which provides 4.92 inches of travel. It also gets a steel tank instead of an aluminum one, higher bars, higher exhaust, a new seat, and pegs that have been moved slightly down and back.

Pricing has yet to be released, but expect it to come in less than the R nineT’s $14,990 price tag, and it will only come in the “monolith metallic matte” color shown.

As with the R nineT, BMW is launching a massive catalog of accessories so you can “customize” your Scrambler. Looking through the photo gallery is sort of a Where’s Waldo? for custom bits, so make sure you’re paying attention as you scroll through.

I feel the need to call out that, at this point, that the term “Scrambler” refers to an aesthetic and not a type of performance. What was once called a “scrambler” would now be called a “dual sport,” so lets stop worrying about how these bikes do in the dirt. This motor is possibly the worst of the current “scramblers” for anything dirty, which matters zero percent since it’s entire purpose is to look pretty and be fun to ride on the street.

Keep up to date on all of our .

The Story Of A Guy's Dad's Junkyard Airplane Abandoned At An Indian Airport Is Fascinating
While my dad never attempted to repair anything more complicated than a stapler, I knew plenty of other Area Dads that had long-term project cars in various states of repair. I’m a dad like that now, as is our editor-in-chinos, Rory. They’re a common trope. This one guy, though,...

Ducati Teases Another New Scrambler Model
On Tuesday the Italian motorcycle manufacturer announced another upcoming Scrambler model would be unveiled in just a couple days time. While we could just be patient and wait to see what the bike will be, obviously I’d rather speculate and spread rumors, because what else would I do? With...

Southwest Airlines Didn't Cancel Over 2,500 Flights Because Of A Vaccine Mandate Protest
Southwest Airlines is the latest after canceling 2,000 flights over the weekend and hundreds more on Monday. The airline and its pilots’ association blame bad weather while the internet and Senator Ted Cruz have a weirder theory: pilots staged a sick-out over the airline’s new vaccine mandate. Southwest Airlines...

There's A Helmet Lab In Sweden Working To Save Your Brain In A Motorcycle Crash
A revolution in riding safety science is happening at a small laboratory in Sweden. Jalopnik has always been a proponent of wearing all the right safety equipment while doing the sketchiest shit, so when the folks at MIPS asked if I wanted to take a peek behind the curtain...

A Project With An Easy Fix Is The Dream
Pulling up the website for craigslist dot org and typing in the word “Project” remains one of my favorite pass times. Every once in a while it turns up a gem like this mid-1990s Harley Sportster bobber. According to the for-sale ad, this bike is in perfect running order...

Nonagenarian Actor Goes To Space
An actor named William Shatner flew into the sky to an apogee of 351,185 feet Wednesday, crossing the Kármán line of 330,000 feet, generally agreed to be the boundary between space and earth’s atmosphere. You finally did it, Mr. Shatner. Shatner is known for being in “Columbo,” and he...
