2016 Toyota Tacoma: Everything We Know
2016 Toyota Tacoma: Everything We Know-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:21

The has been dispatched to stop the company's mid-size truck market share from being lost to GM, who now offer many variations of a comparably sized pickup (the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon). Here's what we know about the new Taco before it bows in Detroit this month.

We've seen and quarters of the new Tacoma, and it seems as though the new truck's borrowing styling cues from the bigger Toyota Tundra. The company's promising "new, rugged tech," and "off-road prowess more formidable than ever," which makes me think they might be keeping or expanding upon their TRD Pro off-road offering.

The 2016 Toyota Tacoma will be completely redesigned from tip to tailgate. We've seen the rear is…

Nothing's been discussed regarding new engine options, but we all know the wheezy 236 horsepower V6 isn't cutting the mustard anymore. If Toyota's not planning on tuning that up, I can't imagine they'd bother with a redesign.

Fortunately the audio track from this teaser clip pretty much confirms something's been done about the truck's power plant:

I don't think we'll see anything as radical as a diesel engine option, but I'll be very curious to see if Toyota uses the redesign to drop the manual transmission option.

As for suspension and technology, Toyota has been tightlipped and given us nothing further than the "can't comment on future product" line. One thing's for sure; the 2016 Toyota Tacoma is going to have to bring its game to a whole new level on driving refinement, standard equipment, and safety (so, pretty much everything) if it wants to hang tough with the Chevy Colorado as the American public's go-to "accessible utility vehicle."

Aww Yeah: The 2017 Ford Raptor's Twin-Turbo V6 Puts Out 450 Horsepower
If you're still a little bummed that the V8 is getting replaced by a twin-turbo V6 that's nearly half its size when a replacement arrives for 2017, maybe this number will make you feel better: 450 horsepower. Yeah, that'll do. That's what Ford Global Product Development Vice President Raj Nair...

Watch What Happens When You Sledgehammer An Aluminum 2015 Ford F-150
The editors of have finally posted what skeptics of the aluminum-bodied have been demanding: An independently sanctioned of the truck's quarter panel. Here's how it held up. The quarter panel was targeted (as opposed to a door or bumper) because it'll be one of the more difficult body parts to...

How Do We Feel About Decorative Puddle Lamps On Fancy Cars?

Nissan Juke Nismo On Treads Looks Like An Insane Snowmobile From Space
The Nismo still looks futuristic to the point of wackiness, even if the design has been with us for a few years now. Throw some snow treads on there and it goes from cool to ice cold, baby! I don't think treads will become a dealer-available option for 2015 but...
