2017 Nissan Armada: The Poor Man's Infiniti QX80 Actually Looks Better
2017 Nissan Armada: The Poor Man's Infiniti QX80 Actually Looks Better-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:16

Nissan’s enormous old-school truck-style SUV is back after a long hiatus; the 2017 Nissan Armada will basically be the peasant-spec . Don’t count on it being “cheap,” but it sure looks sharp.

So far we know the new Armada will share a platform, driveline, engine and a great deal of design with the QX80 and overseas-market Nissan Patrol. Interior shares a lot of the same lines, too from the looks of these first images.

Nissan’s 5.6 liter Endurance V8 will make 390 horsepower as tuned for the Armada, and that’s coupled to a seven-speed automatic transmission.

But more significant to most prospective drivers will be the suite of driver aids you might describe as semi-autonomy; Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), Backup Collision Intervention (BCI), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) and Distance Control Assist (DCA), Lane Departure Prevention (LDP), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Intervention (BSI) and Blind Spot Warning (BSW).

So far Nissan’s announced that the truck, I mean SUV, will be available this summer in SV, SL and Platinum trim levels all with 2WD as standard and 4WD as optional.

Armada will be rated to an impressive 8,500 towing capacity, and (probably) an abysmal achievement of fuel economy.

Now that we’ve reported everything that’s been confirmed, I’ll take the liberty to say this thing looks pretty damn good. I thought the current Infiniti QX80 was a genuine pleasure to drive when I wrung it out last year, except that it forces you to be seen sitting behind that front end.

The simple “V-motion” signature Nissan face was ported perfectly to the QX’s big body. Seems a lot less offensive than the Infiniti’s snarly version, now I feel like I have time to appreciate the SUV a little longer before it eats me.

If the Platinum trim is as nice on this as it is on the this could be a solid luxury 4x4 option. If it’s available with any kind of decent terrain-response system (or locking differentials? A boy can dream.) I’d look forward to driving it!

The 1990s Ford Bronco Deserves More
The 1990s Ford Bronco Deserves More
The 1990s Bronco is, understandably, and not much else. That shouldn’t be the case. They’re simple, stout trucks, and workable platforms just like anything else of the period. Take this 1991 prerunner-gone-mad that jumps approximately 900 feet in the air on decades-old shocks, for example. Good truck: It’s also aided...

What Do You Want To Know About The 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser?
The 2018 Toyota Land Cruiser is the most expensive vehicle in Toyota’s lineup by a massive margin. This model’s sales numbers are so low that it’s unlikely you’ll ever see one in person in America. And yet, it still exists. This week we’ll find out why. Or, at least, whether...

This Mahindra One-Cylinder Truck Has A Higher Payload Capacity Than A Ford F-150
So much of truck-bragging is done backwards, I think. Most truck owners, if inclined to brag, like to talk about how big their engines are, how many cylinders, and so on, as though the sheer size of the numbers they’re spewing makes them tough. I maintain the opposite is true;...

The Baja 1000 Broke Us
The Baja 1000 Broke Us
The tiny racing truck tore back off into the night, and we were left looking at each other. Jams and Boothe had caught up to us, being chauffeured in a chase truck by another friend. They looked brain-dead; I recognized their exacerbation from the last time I ran this race....

Towing An Old Jeep Through An Ice Storm With A 707 HP Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Was Truly Terrifying
I missed the Super Bowl last Sunday because I made a terrible decision: I used a on all-season tires to tow my new from Ohio back to Michigan through an ice storm. It should have been a four-hour trip, but it became a harrowing 12-hour ordeal that nearly ended...

Two Little Pieces Of The Toyota FJ Cruiser Are Coming Back
