Acura Previews New Era with Gorgeous Nexera Vision Concept
Acura Previews New Era with Gorgeous Nexera Vision Concept-August 2024
2026-08-13 EDT 15:36:49

Acura picked a dramatic way to mark its 40th anniversary this week in California, as it unveiled a new concept previewing its future design approach. Dramatic, because the gorgeous Acura Nexera Vision concept will surely get eyes popping, jaws dropping and tongues wagging about a future model based on it.

And were not talking about the next RDX Hybrid, rumoured to be the first model to integrate certain design elements of the Nexera, most notably the brands new lighting signature.

Were talking, rather, about a production model based directly on the Nexera Vision, a successor of sorts to the NSX. Time will tell if that comes to pass.

Meantime, the concept presented online today will be unveiled publicly tomorrow, on Friday, August 14, at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

The low-slung, high-tech coupe serves as a show-stopping design exercise, as a design study should. But its higher purpose, Acura tells us, is to establish the aesthetic and technological foundation for upcoming production models - starting with the fourth-generation RDX Hybrid.

Design of the Acura Nexera VisionDesigned at the Acura Design California studio in Los Angeles under Creative Director and VP of Auto Design Yasutake Tsuchida, the Nexera Vision showcases aggressive yet disciplined proportions.

Finished in Matte Titanium, the coupe features a wide, planted stance, dual-hinge butterfly doors, and extensive forged carbon-fibre detailing across its front aero-channel fascia, rear diffuser, and rocker panels. It also rolls on 22-inch centre-lock wheels, a first for Acura. They housing Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes and feature active rear aerodynamics to optimize stability and high-speed braking.

  Phantom lighting heads to production

The concepts standout innovation is its phantom lighting signature, directly inspired by the brands caliper-like A emblem. Ultra-thin LED headlights and taillights remain hidden beneath the bodywork when switched off, preserving the vehicles uninterrupted, sculpted surfaces. The illumination only reveals itself when activated.

Acura confirmed that this distinct lighting effect will make its production debut on the upcoming RDX Hybrid.

Interior of the Acura Nexera VisionInside, the NEXERA Vision introduces a cockpit engineered around maximum driver engagement and ergonomics. The front seats are integrated directly into the floor in a fixed position, lowering the driving position and the vehicles overall centre of gravity. Shorter people may not love it. To accommodate the driver, the steering wheel and pedal box adjust outward.

The high-contrast black-and-white cabin is highlighted by pink accents and features a suite of sustainable premium materials, including recycled aluminum, Alcantara woven with post-consumer recycled polyester and something called CircuLeather, a genuine leather engineered for a circular lifecycle.

Details of what makes this concept go remain under wraps. We may learn more tomorrow. In the meantime, we get to look at it.
