Amazingly, A MotoAmerica Racer Saved Himself From This 'Death Wobble'
Amazingly, A MotoAmerica Racer Saved Himself From This 'Death Wobble'-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:06

While crashes in motorcycle racing can be spectacular, we love crazy saves the most. Watch Kawasaki rider Anthony West come off his Kawasaki in last weekend’s MotoAmerica race in Pittsburgh and then cling to side the bike while bringing the machine to a halt.

West is a veteran Australian racer who has plied his trade in series around the world. He’s a grand prix race winner in both the Moto2 and predecessor 250cc classes, and has been a regular in World Supersport. In the U.S. series, he’s riding in the Superstock 1000 class for the Fly Street-Motul Oils-ADR Motorsports team.

He calls the incident the “biggest save I have ever made.”

Here’s how he : “Huge hi-side / death wobble as I come over the hill here at Pittsburgh raceway. You can see I left 2 big black marks one from the front and one from the rear tires. This hill you click into 4th on the Kawasaki ZX10. So yes was a fast one and glad to save it. But it still hurt. I have few bruises and hurt my hand. But better then crashing it.”

As for his footwear after skidding to stop? Destroyed. But good news: Alpinestars hooked him up with a new pair.
