An Amtrak Train Has Been Stuck in Snow in Oregon Since Sunday
An Amtrak Train Has Been Stuck in Snow in Oregon Since Sunday-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:04

The evening after hitting a tree that fell on the snowy tracks, creating a very special and boring sort of hell for the 183 passengers onboard. While food and supplies like diapers are on the verge of running out, for the most part people have been dealing with the situation remarkably well, not giving into Train Madness or resorting to cannibalism, not even a little bit.

The train is stranded 321 miles from Seattle near a small town called Oakridge, Oregon. The heavy snows in the area have prevented rail crews from getting to the site to remove the fallen tree, trapping the train for over 50+ hours so far.

Passengers have been reporting that, considering the situation, things have been going well, with staff being supportive, and strangers helping one another out. According to one passenger,

“It’s just been like a giant kumbaya party. Strangers are playing cards. A teenager played his ukulele to kids to get them to sleep. Ladies who have never met before were dancing in aisles.”

That same passenger has been posting some video updates of the situation:

Amtrak has not been charging passengers for food, according to a Tweet:

Having recently traveled on an Amtrak train, this sounds like a cold, boring hell. A new engine has been delivered to the train to pull it back to Seattle, and Amtrak has tweeted that the train has started the journey back:

Of course, more delays are expected, as tracks still require clearing. Those poor bastards aren’t out of this just yet.

Stay strong, you cold, bored people!
