Audi has taken the wraps off the new A3 and S3 sedans at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new Audi A3 features a lightweight design with a range of powerful and efficient engines.

Audi A3 Sedan offers plenty engine choice

Engine Capability

The Audi A3 Sedan engine line will consist of three four-cylinder engines which include:

A 2.0-litre TDI engine with 110kW of power and 320Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100km/h takes just 8.7 seconds, reaching a top speed of 220km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 4.1-litres/100km with a CO2 equivalent of 107 g/km.

A 1.4-litre TFSI engine delivering 103kW of power and a maximum torque figure of 25Nm. Acceleration from 0 -100km/h takes just 8.4 seconds, leaving the car’s top speed at 217 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated 4.7-litres/100km with CO2 emissions rated at 109 g/km.

The 1.8-litre TFSI produces 132kW with a maximum torque figure of 250Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h takes 7.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 235km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 5.6-litres/100km with a CO2 emissions figure of 129 g/km

Exterior Styling Features

The Audi A3 Sedan is distinguished by its sporty stance and expressive design which is a cross between the classic three-box concept and the coupe philosophy. The ‘tornado line’ design creates a distinct light refracting edge that runs over the entire side, while above the side sills it rises more sharply than on the previous A3 models.

The four-door sedan also expresses meticulous curved side surfaces and independent lines in the contour of its hood, bumpers, air intakes and execution of the single-frame grille. The rear spoiler is incorporated in the trunk lid while the lights feature LED technology as an option.

Interior Styling Features

Inside, the Audi A3 will feature a driver information display that uses 3D graphics, a MMI Radio system, a steering wheel with a choice of either three or four spokes and optional sport seats which are standard in the Ambition line. The S sport seats with integrated head restraints are also available as an option.

The interior will also come in a variety of colours such as black, brown, grey or beige and two-tone packages. The upholstery materials include fabric covers, a mix of fabric and artificial leather, Milano leather and a combination of Pearl Nappa leather and Alcantara.

Additionally, the Audi A3 Sedan makes use of the new modular infotainment system (MIB), a MMI Navigation system with an SSD hard drive offering 64 GB of storage, a DVD drive and whole-word voice control.

Other infotainment features include a module for digital radio reception (DAB+), the Audi phone box and the Bang & Olufsen sound system with a 705 Watt amplifier that drives 14 loudspeakers. The LED light guides illuminate the woofer grilles in the front doors.

The Audi S3 Sedan

The Audi S3 Sedan is fitted with a 2.0-litre TFSI engine that develops 221kW with a maximum torque figure of 380Nm. The model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds with the S tronic transmission and 0-100 km/h is achieved in 5.3 seconds with the six-speed manual transmission and reaches an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The S3 is distinguished by modifications to the bumpers, the single-frame grille, air intakes, exterior mirror housings, side sills and rear spoiler. The four oval tailpipes of the exhaust system are embedded in the diffuser with chrome trim. The inside is styled with sport seats (optional S sport seats), instruments with grey dials and trim strips in black 3D look.
