Barb's 1988 Volkswagen Cabrio from Stranger Things Is for Sale
Barb's 1988 Volkswagen Cabrio from Stranger Things Is for Sale-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:46

I’m still currently going through a withdrawal. And if you’re in the same boat as me, then there might be a some relief for you in buying Barb’s 1988 Volkswagen Cabriolet.

In the , the seller claims that this is the car that Barbara Holland drove in season one of the show, right before she gets snatched into the Upside Down and killed by the Demogorgon. It has a blue exterior, a gray interior and is an automatic. It also apparently has 123,000 miles on the clock.

Like many other Americans with functioning metabolisms and internet connections, I found myself…

Of course, as in the past, Barb’s VW is the only mistake in the otherwise extremely impressive and spot-on Stranger Things character cars. The first season of the show is set in 1983, but the car the producers chose for her turned out to be from five years after that. Here’s Jason on it:

They wanted to cast Barb, an upper-middle class girl, with an appropriate car. A Rabbit convertible of that era certainly would have been a good choice—it was a desirable car for upper middle class girls across America. The only problem is that the one they found is actually a Volkswagen Cabriolet, what they later re-named the Rabbit convertible in 1985. You can tell this one is a 1988 because that was the first year of the plastic-covered bumpers and the smaller inner headlights.

Anyway, the seller wants $15,000 for it, which is far too high. A quick and dirty web search yields an average price range of between $3,000 and $6,000. But then again, I only like Stranger Things, I’m no superfan. I’m just glad Barb got a proper funeral in the second season.

At $23,800, Will This 2005 Maserati GranSport Prove a Grand Bargain?
Today’s Maserati offers an exotic car experience at a non-exotic price. Will it prove a good enough deal to fend off claims of poseur status? There’s nothing better than open roads and a comfortable car in which to ply them. Yesterday’s was a car originally designed to eat up...

Today’s Mailster offers mid-engine power, sliding door convenience, and three-wheel quirkiness. Even with all that, it’s hard to say just what someone might do with it. Let’s see if its price inspires any ideas. There’s been a good bit of debate around here as to whether the Maserati brand...
