BMW has reached a new milestone in its electric transition. The German automaker says it delivered its two-millionth fully electric vehicle in August 2026, nearly 13 years after the commercial launch of the first BMW i3.

　　Adding plug-in hybrid models, BMW and Mini have delivered some 3.5 million electrified vehicles worldwide since 2013. During the first half of 2026, more than one in four vehicles sold by the group featured an electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain.

　　The iX3 boosts sales in Europe

　　According to data released by BMW, European sales of fully electric vehicles grew by 38 percent in the second quarter of 2026, reaching 81,445 units. The boost came largely on the well-received back of the new BMW iX3.

　　For the entire first half of the year, fully electric models represented roughly 28 percent of the manufacturers European sales. BMW also notes that since the global debut of the iX3, that model has accounted for one in three orders among its electric vehicles in Europe.

　　Electric propulsion is also gaining ground within the X3 range itself; one in two orders now is for the electric iX3.

　　We will soon approach the threshold of 100,000 new orders, stated Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales. According to him, these results illustrate the importance of the Neue Klasse architecture in the development of the groups electric lineup.

　　A BMW i5 delivered in Spain

　　The two-millionth electric vehicle delivered by BMW was an i5 M60 xDrive. Assembled at the Dingolfing plant in Germany, the electric sedan was handed over to a customer in Spain.

　　Meanwhile, the Munich plant began series production of the new BMW i3 in August, the second Neue Klasse model after the iX3. The new i3 is not to be confused with the i3 city car marketed from 2013 to 2022: the new generation takes the form of an electric sedan.

　　BMW reports high demand since orders opened, leading to a rapid production ramp-up in Munich. In parallel, the automaker intends to maintain a lineup composed of fully electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models in order to meet the varying paces of electromobility adoption across different markets.
