Buy This Mercedes SLR McLaren 722S If You Love Halloween Every Day of the Year
Buy This Mercedes SLR McLaren 722S If You Love Halloween Every Day of the Year-July 2024

I’m sorry, I know this is really unique and special, but I just cannot look past the paint job. Other people on staff like it a lot, they think it’s a nice school bus shade of yellow-orange, but all I see a garish jack-o-lantern. I will attempt to look past that and tell you about it.

Listed for sale on for $1,050,000, this 722S is apparently one-of-kind.

If that’s true, then it seems like this McLaren Orange (it’s historic!) thing has been for sale before... . And that was only three years ago. That’s some strong appreciation.

When the 722S (the roadster variant of the 722) was , we learned that production would be limited to 150 examples. At the end of 2010, as MotorGT tells it, McLaren Special Operations created a customization program for the SLR and offered it to about 25 variants of the SLR, with the exception of the .

Of those 25 cars, only six of them were 722Ss. These six cars got a different body kit, were lighter, received better downforce and an improved suspension system. This particular two-tone 722S is apparently the only one with a McLaren upgraded engine management software, intercoolers and sports exhaust. This all adds up to about 100 extra horsepower. Out of the box, the 722S came with 650 horsepower from its supercharged 5.5-liter V8, so this orange one probably makes something like 750 HP now. It’s absurd.

The Mercedes SLR McLarens represented a collaboration between Mercedes and McLaren. The 722 was a more powerful special edition that was named after the starting number of Stirling Moss’s Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, which won the Mille Miglia.

The 722S does show up on the list of cars bound by the laws, so you might want to make sure you’re okay with that before signing over the funds. But don’t worry, because MotorGT also offers “great lease rates and financing.”

At $12,500, Could This 2006 Jaguar XKR Victory Edition Prove Victorious?
Some special editions are... well, less special than others. Being one of 1,050 trim package editions makes today’s Jag one of those. Maybe its price will improve its standing. While considering yesterday’s , I was suddenly hit by the thought; has any nation offered up as many place names...

At $8,750, Is This 1995 GMC Yukon SLT The Four-By-Four For You?
The Yukon Gold potato is neither from the Yukon nor actually gold. It is a fitting reference however for today’s GMC, however, since it is both. Let’s see if the price on this old-school two-door 4X4 comes across as fully or only half baked. Picking the right name for...

Subaru Gives Super-Exclusive Limited Edition $63,995 STI S209 'Special' Financing
The is the first-ever limited-edition S-car STI has homologated for sale in the U.S. It’s extremely exclusive, with only 209 cars available. That doesn’t sound like such a tough sell, does it? But there’s a catch. You wouldn’t think Subaru would have any trouble selling all 209 of its...

At $4,000, Could This Supercharged 2006 Chevy Cobalt SS Prove A Super Slick Deal?
Small sporty cars are few and far between these days. Ones like today’s Cobalt that really push their econobox envelopes are even rarer. Let’s see if this supercharged Super Sport comes with a price tag that could make it a far more common sight in your driveway. I think...

I Need Something Fun, Interesting And Reliable For Under $15,000! What Car Should I Buy?
Jeffrey lives in Washington state and has played it pretty safe with his car purchases. He has had some solid rides but never really enjoyed any of them. It’s time to break free and get something that puts a simile on his face for under $15,000. What car should...

The 2019 Ford Edge ST Needs To Be Sharper Or Cheaper
The is certainly quicker than its more pedestrian stablemates, but it lacks the raw performance capabilities of its smaller, more famous cousins, the Focus ST and the Fiesta ST. As a more-exciting-than-stock family car, it does just fine, even if the asking price is a little stiff. (: Ford...
