Prototype racers: We know them, we love them, and many pine for the glory days of GTP racing from the eighties and nineties. Well, they’re in luck: , and the competitors are already starting to roll in. Even Cadillac is on board, and today the brand teased its 2023 GTP car — one it hopes can take the crown at Le Mans.

Cadillac calls the video a “tease,” but there’s a lot of detail to be found in the 22-second clip the brand posted on YouTube. There are wide shots showing the entire car, close-ups down the side, and a hint of the car’s engine note as it peels out of frame. The verdict? It looks and sounds great.

Cadillac is working with Dallara for the chassis, like it did for the , but with any luck the Project GTP car won’t follow its older sibling’s naming convention. Even “Project GTP” is a lot more pronounceable with a human mouth than “Dee pee eye dash vee dot are.” I’m not asking for it to be called the Catera (at least, not explicitly), but something that sounds like a car rather than a barcode would be nice.

The Project GTP in the video is devoid of any obvious logos or decals, but its colors closely match the scheme run by the existing . Look closely as the video pans over the car’s side — Cadillac’s black and silver are subtly accented with Mustang Sampling’s bronze around the window and on the wheels.

The Project GTP prototype will make its first race appearance at the Rolex 24 at Daytona next January, running a “new Cadillac engine package” alongside the spec GTP hybrid setup. Cadillac hasn’t specified what this engine package might be, but the exhaust note in the video certainly sounds brawny — please, homologate it.

Mazda Fixed the Third Biggest Problem With the MX-30
Mazda’s first battery electric vehicle, the , isn’t exactly the most compelling EV on the road. Its first issue is range — it goes just 100 miles on a full charge, something Mazda’s attempted to solve by for long trips. Its second issue is size, in that it rides...

Bentley's New Cars Are So Heavy, You Might Need a CDL to Drive Them in Europe
Right now, across and , there’s a shortage of drivers that are both qualified and willing to drive tractor trailers. These truckers, and their sought-after commercial driver’s licenses, are leaving trucking in droves to find jobs with better pay and working conditions. Perhaps they’re all pivoting to the chauffer...

What Do You Want to Know About the Ram 1500 TRX?
We may be in the midst of the worst in over a decade, but that didn’t stop me (a smart and rational person) from asking Stellantis for the keys to a 2022 Ram 1500 TRX to roadtrip for the weekend. Since they’re a bit kooky, like me, they obliged....

At $6,700, Is This 1987 VW Westfalia Weekender A Van In Need That’s A Deal Indeed?
In order to find a Westie Weekender that’s not crazy expensive, you might have to make a few concessions. Today’s pop-top makes those for you. Let’s decide if its present state demands that the price does too. Years ago a family friend, who has long since passed away, owned...

The Maserati Levante GTS Invites You to Forget You’re Driving a Crossover
You feel it the moment you get into the car and sink into its supple, coffee-colored interior. Your hands reach for the wheel and wrap comfortably around its leather-wrapped edges. Everything is plush and smooth, almost too inviting to the touch. You gaze around the cabin and see the...

CarMax Thinks You'll Pay $8,000 Over Sticker For This Used 2017 Mitsubishi
This absolutely has brought on almost comical markups on all kinds of new and used cars. Here’s a particularly egregious one: CarMax wants to sell you for $29,998 — or $8,188 more than what this 31,000-mile car stickered for when it was brand-new. found this bewildering listing and I’m...
