Check Out Every Awesome Detail Of This $200,000 Adventure Camper-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:12

Remember car camping with your family? Most of us have trucked a Volvo/Ford Explorer/Chevy Tahoe from the ’burbs to a designated parking space in the woods for a few nights of bug bites and bonding time. The EarthCruiser takes that idea way, way further off the grid.

If you’ve heard of “,” you already get what the EarthCruiser is all about. If you haven’t- overlanding is car camping with more accessories and, ideally, a much more inconvenient destination requiring the use of said accessories.

We’ve seen all kinds of overlanding setups over the years, from to converted into a rolling luxury condo.

The EarthCruiser is on the upper-end of that spectrum, but it’s built on basic bones. This six-ton vehicle is, simply, a 4WD Mitsubishi Fuso box truck. The cab is standard issue and so is its four-cylinder diesel engine. But instead of a cargo box full of blankets or radishes or frozen fish, a sturdy first-class domicile is mounted on the truck frame in which people can live self-sufficiently... indefinitely.

I mean, except for the occasionally fuel-and-water resupply stops.

EarthCruiser is a small outfit out of Oregon, run by off-road adventure enthusiasts Lance Gillies and Michelle Boltz. Their team is turning these cargo trucks into extreme campers while they show their product off to the world. Literally. When we caught up with Lance and Michelle with their EarthCruiser in southern California, they’d just landed from cruising around Asia.

The EarthCruiser can’t fly or float, but it can fit into a standard-sized shipping container, which is almost the same thing.

The truck is a bit of a behemoth but really, not much harder to drive than a fully-loaded van or a U-Haul truck. As for actual off-road capability, the EarthCruiser might be sketchy over extremely technical terrain but it sure as hell would leave any regular van-based RV in the dust on fire roads or desert tracks.

$200,000 buys a lot of hotel rooms or fuel for a smaller 4x4, but what makes the EarthCruiser cool is that you can post up in it anywhere, for as long as you want, and stay as comfortable as you’d be in your living room.

These Shade-Tree Mechanics Know How To Make A Real Range Rover Pickup
Yesterday the always-extreme luxotuner /Startech , and bedazzled the rest of the thing with fender flares, carbon accents, and 11"-wide wheels. Meanwhile some folks in Seattle made their own Range Rover truck and it's way, way better. Apparently this monster was spotted in Wallingford, Washington. Looks like somebody took a...

Dennis Rodman's Boobalicious H1 Hummer Is 7154 Pounds Of Pure Nonsense
After , it turns out Doug DeMuro managed to purchase . If he’d have just waited a few weeks he could have bought this exceedingly awful and mural-infested H1 owned by the exceedingly awful and mural-infested Dennis Rodman. Remember Arnold Schwarzenegger’s fleet of Hummers, some of which were converted to...

Things That Need To Happen: Mad Max Power Wheels
Let's say your little Seymour or Brynleee wants a Power Wheels car, but they're not like the other kids. They think Barbie's Mustang is for cowards, the F-150 isn't menacing enough, and the Jeep lacks outright slaughtering power. What do you get for your lil' desert warlord? You get them...

In Dubai, Off-Roading Big Ass SUVs Is All About Momentum
A 2014 Toyota Land Cruiser weighs about 5,875 pounds and despite all the heritage, is not something I would consider as a proper off-road vehicle. In Dubai though, the playing field is a bit crazier. Endless sand dunes and camels on the loose wherever you look once outside the city....

Range Rover Tuner Pickup Hauls Tiny Things Fast And Dodges Taxes
Luxo-tuner Startech has sliced the back off a long wheelbase Range Rover and turned it into a little monster like something between a cereal box toy and Megazord. It's wider and faster than a regular Range Rover, and since it has a "bed" you can reportedly skirt luxury taxes importing...
