Chrysler Recalls 895,000 SUVs After 62 Fires
Chrysler Recalls 895,000 SUVs After 62 Fires-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:25

The summer of recalls rolls on, and it's not just limited to General Motors' cars. Chrysler announced today they will recall nearly 900,000 SUVs over fire concerns after federal officials upgraded their investigation into the problem.

reports the recall covers 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees and . In those SUVs, the wiring inside the vanity mirror and headliner could short circuit and catch fire.

The scary part is that Chrysler told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration they're aware of 62 fire incidents, including three injuries. NHTSA said it has now identified five reports of vehicle headliners catching fire. They opened their investigation last August and expanded it this year.

Chrysler reports it has seen the problem only in sun visor mirrors that have been previously serviced, but it will replace all of them as a precaution.

The News says Chrysler will install a spacer containing a wire guide feature that will keep the lines properly routed, preventing a short-circuit and fire.

Has anyone with a Durango or Grand Cherokee experienced this problem?

Will This Mitsubishi Raider Ever Escape The Meineke Parking Lot?
Whether this is a Dodge Dakota or a Mitsubishi Raider, it won't be moving any time soon. The way the snow's rested on the grille makes me thing it's the Three-Diamond rebadge, but who wants to argue otherwise? Then again, maybe I'm off completely. That'd be embarrassing. ...
