First responders know that every second matters when it comes to extracting an injured person from a crashed car. Currently, most municipalities train their firefighters, EMTs, and police on a hydraulic cutting and spreading tool known colloquially as the ‘jaws of life.’ These require an on-scene generator to run the hydraulic rams, which requires setup time and even then doesn’t cut as quickly as you might think. Let’s get back to basics and go the Save Tool way, using black powder blanks to fire a pair of massive cutting jaws. It’s faster, plus it looks cool as shit, man.

If you’ve got a blank pre-loaded in the chamber, you could through A-pillars in seconds. There’s no messy setup time, no unreliable hydraulic rams, and no high pressure hoses to worry about. Just bing, bang, boom. The Save Tool uses a standard 7.62mm x 39mm rimless bottleneck cartridge, brought to the world by the Soviets and typically used in SKS and AK-47 pattern rifles. Pop one in, aim your jaws and pull the trigger; whatever you put between those jaws, it’s just been cleft in twain.

The video of this tool in use is absolutely fantastic to watch. It’s a mix between ASMR-soothing calm, quiet destruction and an ultimate piece of high comedy. A completely denim-clad person of Slavic descent enters the scene ready to fuck shit up, and as soon as the first blast of the car’s A-pillar happens, I burst into a laughing fit. It’s just gone. This car never had a chance. The A-, B-, and C-pillars are gone within the first minute; by the end of the second minute, the entire roof is gone. My favorite part is the steering column.

If you need more of this in your life, and I know I do, thankfully Save Tool has a whole series of videos with this guy. I don’t know how much these things are, but I’m almost convinced to buy one just to mess around with. You never know when you might need to cut an A-pillar. It certainly .

Something like this might be a good idea for some first responders to adopt, or at least add to their arsenal. If someone is trapped by their steering column, the Save Tool might be just the thing they need!
