Even the most boring little commuter daily driver hatchback can be turned into a riot of a good time by removing the weight of a particularly large Grizzly Bear. When your tiny four cylinder economy car only has to haul around 2/3rds of the car’s original weight, it can breathe a little easier and move the now lighter car much quicker. It’s been proven a million times that removing weight from a car will get it down a drag strip much quicker, but it’ll also help with cornering speeds, braking distances, and FUN!

We all have our own little subsections of automotive culture that get our heartrates pumped up, and this is mine. Any time a car is stripped of its non-essentials in the interest of cheap and dumb speed, I’m intrigued. This little automotive fetish was all kicked off by in Hot Rod Magazine nearly a decade ago. And it continues through to today with , or this little stripped out Mitsubishi. I’m into it. I’m here for it. I’m always left wanting more.

It’s the kind of automotive hi-jinx that is by and large meaningless. Realistically, this kind of modification renders the car useless, and nobody is going to carry out this level of weight loss. But it proves a point. By shedding even a few pounds, your car can be made quicker, faster, and accentuate its dynamics.

If you go by the old racer’s adage, ounces equal pounds. Find little differences that will slowly add up to be big differences. Does your track car need a windshield washer bottle?

I’m not going to recommend you shed the doors of your daily commuter, but there’s no harm in taking the back seat out, you know, if you don’t use it very often.

Is A Factory Screwed-Up Car Cool?
Is A Factory Screwed-Up Car Cool?
If there’s one thing I especially enjoy about being painfully into cars, it’s that the sheer breadth of just how that manifests itself is pretty staggering. Gearhead tastes are wildly divergent, and I’m certain that what I consider a dream car is something that many others would reject in...

Blip: Picnic At The Pit
Man, this brings back some memories. Memories of being taken to the Great Perfectly Round Pit Of Blackest Ichor in the back of my Church Of The Blackest Ichor youth group leader’s Fiat 1800 wagon, being fed from a dense hockey-puck-like cake set on a large slice of prosciutto,...

Trump's Favorite Car Startup Needs More Money
Trump threw a lot of weight behind the somewhat quizzical , which facelifted an electric Silverado and got a GM factory for its trouble. Now the startup needs more federal money. All that and more in for January 13, 2020. Already a favored project of the Trump Admin, Lordstown...

Trump Is Leaving Automakers One Last Gift
President Trump’s attempted rollback of Obama-era fuel efficiency standards from start to finish. And now a Trump administration decision on Tuesday means that increased fines for automakers who miss those standards — whatever they are in the end — will be delayed for now. The fines were set to...

GM's Electric Van Company Is About Much More Than Electric Vans
General Motors in its digital Consumer Electronics Show keynote, including Cadillac’s flagship Celestiq and a pair of Corvette-looking crossovers that are, apparently, Buicks. There was a Chevy truck in there too. Lots of EVs, indeed. Given all those fresh faces, it’s easy to miss one of GM’s more grounded,...
