Don’t Tease Me Like This, CarMax: Best Of Jalopnik
Don’t Tease Me Like This, CarMax: Best Of Jalopnik-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:24

Like many of you, I will often pass the time browsing I could get with a MaxCare warranty. Sometimes some real gems will appear, and sometimes life plays cruel jokes on you.

A reader sent me a tip that not one, but two Aston Martins were listed for sale on CarMax. So naturally, I had to get the scoop.

Only to find out that the 2012 Aston Martin DBS for the amazing price of $11,998 bore a strange resemblance to a Nissan Sentra and that the 2016 Vanquish for a very reasonable $43,998 looked suspiciously like a Toyota Tundra. Or maybe, then again, we’ve all been totally mistaken about what an Aston Martin DBS truly looks like. I’ll let the good people of Jalopnik decide.

It’s something readers have continued to find on CarMax throughout the years — one vehicle being mislabeled as another. Hopefully car buyers are smart enough to understand that their “Aston Martin” is actually not a sports car at all, but it does make you wonder how many people bought a base model Toyota Camry thinking it was the top tier XLE trim because of a clerical error.

I think whoever enters the listings is probably a Jalopnik reader with a sense of humor, as it also appeared that there were 69 Porsches for sale. Nice.

Shame on you, CarMax! This will be the last time you fool me! Until the next time, when you fool me again!

At $26,000, Is This 1970 ‘MGB SVO’ An Authentic Deal?
Today’s MGB is a one-of-a-kind custom, but according to its seller, it could have been the first of a series of Carrol Shelby specials. Let’s see if we’re buying both the story and the price tag. The we looked at yesterday reminded me of a story I read years...

At $17,500, Is This 1969 Avanti II Too Good To Pass Up?
Today’s Avanti is named after a kingdom of ancient India. Let’s see if this one’s price tag makes it a historically good deal. There are those who advocate that the way to go through life is to “fake it ’til you make it.” When it came to yesterday’s ,...

At $4,500, Is This 2004 Chrysler Crossfire Firmly A Bargain?
The seller of today’s Crossfire will not respond to emails, demanding interested parties text or phone to ask about the car. Let’s decide if the price they’ve set is worth making the call. In his Saturday Night Live skit, Fernando’s Hideaway, Billy Crystal created a character that espoused that...

At $22,400, Could This Tidy 2007 Porsche Cayman Clean Up?
The hue of today’s Cayman is often referred to as “Retail Red” or “Arrest Me Red.” The factory name for the color is Guards Red and has long been a popular choice among Porschephiles. Let’s see how popular this dealer-offered coupe’s price might be. The interior of yesterday’s had...

This Might Be The Worst Used Car Buying Advice I’ve Ever Seen
I’ve been blogging about car buying for about ten years, and I’ve seen some over that time when it comes to giving consumers advice. However, this most recent one might take the cake with because they don’t depreciate all that much. This one comes once again from GoBankingRates.com via...
