Don’t Tease Me Like This, CarMax: Best Of Jalopnik
Don’t Tease Me Like This, CarMax: Best Of Jalopnik-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:24

Like many of you, I will often pass the time browsing I could get with a MaxCare warranty. Sometimes some real gems will appear, and sometimes life plays cruel jokes on you.

A reader sent me a tip that not one, but two Aston Martins were listed for sale on CarMax. So naturally, I had to get the scoop.

Only to find out that the 2012 Aston Martin DBS for the amazing price of $11,998 bore a strange resemblance to a Nissan Sentra and that the 2016 Vanquish for a very reasonable $43,998 looked suspiciously like a Toyota Tundra. Or maybe, then again, we’ve all been totally mistaken about what an Aston Martin DBS truly looks like. I’ll let the good people of Jalopnik decide.

It’s something readers have continued to find on CarMax throughout the years — one vehicle being mislabeled as another. Hopefully car buyers are smart enough to understand that their “Aston Martin” is actually not a sports car at all, but it does make you wonder how many people bought a base model Toyota Camry thinking it was the top tier XLE trim because of a clerical error.

I think whoever enters the listings is probably a Jalopnik reader with a sense of humor, as it also appeared that there were 69 Porsches for sale. Nice.

Shame on you, CarMax! This will be the last time you fool me! Until the next time, when you fool me again!

At $16,995, Could This 2010 BMW X5 M Twin Turbo put the Sport in Your Utility?
You might consider BMW offering SUVs as the height of blasphemy, but there’s no arguing that monster wagons like today’s X5 M embody the Bavarian marque’s sporting heritage. Let’s see if this twin-turbo monster’s price is yet another heresy. It’s a true fact that if pressured to be competent...

Fix Overcrowded Roads by Driving the Tiniest Fiat
Fix Overcrowded Roads by Driving the Tiniest Fiat
Say it’s the mid-1970s and you drive the heavy traffic streets of Roma, Italia every day. The streets are filled with gigantic Fiat X1/9s, Alfasuds, and old Autobianchi Bianchinas. These four-wheeled pleasure barges are clogging your good city streets with excessive size and engine displacement. You need something smaller...

At $1,600, Could This 1994 Honda CB250 Nighthawk Make You Ready for a new Adventure?
The seller of today’s Honda has taken a ‘City Bike’ and turned it into a country adventurer. Could that incongruous combination add up to a great deal? Unsurprisingly, yesterday’s 2 garnered some well-earned skepticism. Dodgy in the details, and a bit rough around the edges, that intriguing concept couldn’t...

At $9,950, Will This 1971 Porsche 914 Chalon Prove a Challenge to Sell?
While Hans Christian Andersen’s ugly duckling did turn into a beautiful swan, the same transformation can perhaps not be said for today’s 914 with its Mitcom Chalon body kit. Its beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but will its price be as well? America is a...

The 2015 Land Rover Defender Is So Bad at So Many Things But I Still Love It
The late-model Land Rover Defender is a wildly enticing forbidden fruit we got to sample briefly here in America. It’s a fruit we’re still craving, So I leapt at the chance to drive one around Iceland for a few days, even though my driving route might have been the worst...

At $12,900, Has This Rebuilt-Titled 2016 Ford Focus “ST” Sedan Been Built for a Quick Sale?
If you’ve wanted a Ford Focus ST then you’re likely resigned to driving a hatch. Today’s candidate is, amazingly enough, a saloon. It’s a custom job and carries a rebuilt title. Let’s figure out what that might be all about. Much debate was had over last Friday’s , most...
