Michael Schumacher of Germany and Mercedes GP is seen during practice for the Chinese Formula One Grand Prix at the Shanghai International Circuit on April 15, 2011 in Shanghai, China.

The German magazine, Die Aktuelle, which published an AI-fenerated interview with , has fired its editor and apologized to the seven-time world champion’s family, according to . hasn’t been seen since December 2013 after suffering a serious brain injury while skiing in the French Alps.

It in no way meets the standards of journalism that we — and our readers — expect from a publisher like Funke,” Bianca Pohlmann, Funke magazine managing director, said in the statement. “As a result of the publication of this article, immediate personnel consequences will be drawn."

The statement went on to say that Anne Hoffman, Die Aktuelle’s editor-in-chief, who has “held journalistic responsibility for the paper since 2009” will be fired.

The latest edition of the magazine ran a front cover story with a picture of a smiling and the headline ‘Michael Schumacher, the first interview.’ It very much was not. The article, as , was completely AI generated and made to look “deceptively real.”

We do everything we can to make Michael better and make sure he’s comfortable, and to simply make him feel our family, our bond,” Corinne Schumacher said in , reported on by Reuters. “We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does.

Let's Brainstorm: How Can We Make F1's Monaco Grand Prix More Interesting?
It isn’t often that I’ll admit that maybe Bernie Ecclestone was right about something, but after last weekend’s processional Monaco Grand Prix, I’ve been thinking that Formula One’s most iconic—and most boring—race could use a makeover. And with NASCAR’s rainy outing at Circuit of the Americas taking place at...

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc Nabs His Second Pole Position In A Row At Baku—This Time Without Crashing
In Monaco, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc raised some eyebrows when he secured pole position in part by crashing after his fast lap and ending qualifying. During today’s qualifying session in Baku, it was another crash that ended the session with Leclerc on top—but it wasn’t his own car. Conditions were...

If you don’t quite recall the name of Dutch racing driver Robert Doornbos, you’d be forgiven. In 11 Formula One starts with Minardi and Red Bull, his best finish was 12th. In Champ Car, he finished third in the 2007 championship. But his legacy will live on in a...

I Am Going To Try, And Possibly Fail, To Explain NASCAR's Pit Stop Procedures For This Weekend's Mid-Ohio Xfinity Race
There once was a time when NASCAR was all about simplicity. You just got behind the wheel of a car, and you raced it. Nowadays, you’d be lucky just to figure out how to follow a single race as a fan, and it’s only getting more complicated this weekend...

Heavy Rains Turn Spa's Eau Rouge Into A Rushing Eau Brune River
Someone’s going to have to change the name of Spa-Francorchamps’ iconic Eau Rouge, because this weekend, a deluge turned the track into a rushing river of brown, muddy water. Something tells me no one is probably going to be racing in that. This phenomenon is a bit difficult to describe...
