For the first time in the history of , over half of all new vehicles sold . According to data from , sales of SUVs grew 23 percent in the first half of the year to 3.37 million. That gives them a market share of 51 percent — up from 48 percent at the same time last year.

Four of the six cars that topped 100,000 units in the first half came from the small car segment. It was led by the Dacia Sandero, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio.

Europe’s most popular vehicle segments are as follows: Small SUVs (1,133,822 first-half sales), Compact SUVs (999,568), Small Cars (913,571), Compact Cars (760,032) and rounding out the top five are Premium Midsize SUVs (421,902).
