F-35C Catapults Off The Deck Of A Super Carrier For The First Time-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:26

The F-35C took its first ride down a ship-borne catapult today as part of its ongoing inaugural sea trials aboard the USS Nimitz. This follows that saw a pair of F-35Cs, belonging to , landing on a carrier for the first time ever.

Once aboard, there is only two ways off a nuclear super carrier for a fighter jet. One is via a dockside crane, the other is by riding one of the ship's four catapults. Today, the 17 ton jet took the catapult option, and did so in grand fashion and repeated it a few times, along with more arrested landings.

You think you’re all “cool” with your Bugatti Chiron and its nine miles to the gallon. Feh! Feh, I say. What does that have, a mere 1,479 horsepower? Weak. What you need is a Saturn V rocket. The Saturn V, with its 138-foot-tall S-IC first stage, generated 7,600,000 pounds of...

This Is What A Nuclear 'Fizzle' Looks Like

Luckily, there’s cameras everwhere, like this dashcam from...

I Almost Feel Bad For The Guys Who Broke This Navy Helicopter
We’ve all been there, circling the parking lot, looking for just the right spot. And then you hit a curb, and you feel very dumb. I imagine that’s exactly how these U.S. Navy pilots felt after knocking off their $21 million MH-60S Seahawk’s tailwheel while trying to park at a...

Russian Guy Crashes Armored Personnel Carrier Into Store, Steals Wine, Flattens Daewoo
Look, we’ve all been there: It’s late and we get a hankering for some wine, but sadly there isn’t any in the house. Time to make a wine run. Somebody grab the armored personnel carrier. A resident in Apatity, Russia (near the top of Finland and north of the Arctic...

Hawaii's Missile Warning System Looks Much Worse Than You Thought
It was only Saturday when a false alert went out to cell phones across Hawaii warning that a ballistic missile was heading for the state – and more than that, it was “NOT A DRILL.” Officials later said that the employee who sent the alert , not fired, and, indeed,...
