Fiat's New Small Pickup Supposedly Based On The Jeep Renegade's Platform
Fiat's New Small Pickup Supposedly Based On The Jeep Renegade's Platform-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:18

The new Fiat Toro compact crew-cab pickup truck has been revealed for the Brazilian market. While official details on the vehicle’s architecture haven’t been confirmed, seem to think it shares at least part of the Jeep Renegade’s “small-wide” platform.

Does this mean the Toro could be ported more easily to the American market? Not really. Sort of. No, I wouldn’t expect this little thing stateside any time soon. It wouldn’t really work with Fiat’s brand in America and I think it’s too dinky to be “the new Jeep pickup” everyone’s been hyping and predicting for the last ten years.

That hasn’t stopped people from dreaming of course! The Toro has already been reimagined as a Ram on :

I mean, the Durango grille does slide right in!

So you might not be able to buy it stateside, but if you’re still interested: the Toro will be shipping with a 1.8 liter gasoline engine and front-wheel drive or a 2.0 liter 170 horsepower turbodiesel rated at 170 horsepower.

The diesel can be paired up with a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or nine-speed automatic for efficiency freaks. Good luck getting that thing into ninth without running it full noise down a hill for an hour, but hey, it’s nice to have.

says the Toro is “26 inches longer than the Renegade, 20 inches shorter than the Chevrolet Colorado extended cab, and ten inches shorter than the 2011 Ford Ranger” making it slot below what we currently consider a “mid-sized truck.”

Maybe if the Hyundai Santa Cruz becomes a thing, Fiat will take a harder look at bringing this to America.
