For $34,800, This 1976 Chevy Caprice Estate Comes With A Boat
For $34,800, This 1976 Chevy Caprice Estate Comes With A Boat-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:03

There are few wagons bigger than today’s Caprice, but if that alone is not long enough, this one comes with a boat and trailer to sweeten the deal. You’re going to have to decide however if that helps to keep the price from sinking the deal.

While much debate was had over the youthfulness of its license plate, fully 88% of you agreed that yesterday’s seemingly clean earned it a Nice Price win. What’s that old adage that wold be appropriate in such situations - smoke if you’ve got ‘em? - well, this Volvo will let you.

Old Volvos never die, they just fade away. Well, that’s not exactly true, they do actually die -…

Hopefully neither a smoker itself nor ever smoked in - that’s a lot of Febreze - comes today’s ! If you have ever wished to drive something as long as a big rig, but have always been too lazy as to get a Class A CDL, then this might just be the set up for you.

The ’76 Caprice wagon was the last of what we call the full-figured models, rocking a 121.5-inch wheelbase and a 222.9-inch overall length. That’s eighteen and a half feet of ‘70s family hauler. The big GM’s wagons’ other claim to fame was the clamshell tailgate, which electrically opened and closed sort of like the back sweepers on NYC garbage trucks.

This one comes in buttercup under a woodgrain appliqué on both sides, and over a black vinyl interior. Everything looks excellent, and is described in the ad as having both a factory-fresh interior and working everything.

Amazingly, the car has but 110,000 claimed miles. That’s possibly owed to the 14-years it spent in storage having been awakened from its Rip Van Winkle-dom just in 2013. Since then it’s seen what’s said to be $10K in mechanical maintenance, including an engine ‘overhaul.’

That engine is Chevy’s 400-cid V8 which this production year put out 175-bhp and 305 lb-ft of torque. With the 2bbl carb and 3-speed THM400, that should be good for… oh, I’d say about 11 miles per gallon of regular you put in it. Still, how else you going to get YOUR NEW BOAT to the lake?

That boat is a 1977 16-foot Bahama TriHull with an inboard Volvo Penta AQ130A and which sits on a Vanson trailer. The paint scheme of both has been updated to compliment that of the Caprice.

The condition of the boat and its motor are described as excellent, and the boat, trailer, and car are ONLY offered as a package deal, so if you were getting all excited about the though of having a lone boat trailer as a lawn ornament, calm the hell down.

That package - again, a low-mile, acres-big Chevy wagon, cool, begging for bikinis boat, and a trailer - has a Buy It Now of $34,800. Yikes! Yes, that’s a lot of samolians, but then this is a lot of damn-near everything.

What’s your take on this surf and turf (sort of) package and its price? Is that a reasonable amount of cash to ask for this Chevy boat and its actual boat? Or, is that price a turnoff to your inner executive cat?

You decide!

out of California, or go if the ad disappears.

H/T to west-coaster for the hookup!

2009 Toyota Venza: Part One
The has the unique ability to elicit both howls of displeasure and interjections of apathy, but considering what's popular with the masses, that doesn't matter. The question really appears to be: "Is it a good Toyota?" The resounding answer here is "kinda." Toyota has built itself into the worlds largest...

2009 Audi TTS Roadster: First Drive
When you think of the , particularly the Roadster, your head probably fills with poor-driving, poseur car stereotypes. The is supposed to turn that image on its head with a 265 HP 2.0-liter turbo. That engine is the centerpiece in a thoroughly upgraded car. Shared with the Audi S3, the...

2009 Toyota Venza: Part Three
Buying a Toyota used to be the frugal and responsible automotive choice. The shakes off that notion with big styling, big wheels and little fuel economy. Anything going for it? You've been buying Toyota's since that rickety Chevy Citation you had in 1980 caught on fire while losing a wheel....

2009 Toyota Venza: Part Two
Yesterday we talked about the , the seventh crossover or SUV to join the Toyota lineup. It's big, expensive and not particularly fuel-efficient versus other crossovers, so how about everything else? The Venza tests the limits of the company's traditionally conservative styling direction. It's weird, yes, but we've always felt...
