For $5,600 This 1981 VW Westfalia Is Pure Camp
For $5,600 This 1981 VW Westfalia Is Pure Camp-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:04

The seller of today's Westie says it was bequeathed to him by his late uncle. It's a little rough around the edges but does that mean its price will have you yelling uncle?

Brown came to town yesterday in the form of a . Now, that car's oddball Vulcan V6 might let it live long and prosper, but with a 60% Crack Pipe loss, its price wasn't going to make that life an easy one.

The seller of today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe Corolla describes the car as a Hotrod econobox…

Old, funky and sporting a color not often seen today describes that toyota, but it's also recipe for today's with the desirable Westfalia camper package. I can't decide if the actual color of this Westie is or , but I'm leaning toward the latter.

Whatever it is, the ad says the paint is ugly, but that even ugly girls can be a world of fun. Okay, well, we'll just leave that misogyny right there and will carry on looking at the car. On a number of other accounts, this camper seems to have a lot going for it.

The ad notes that the L-jetronic has been scrapped, and in its place there is a Weber 2BBL carb. Now, that may fly in its present location which appears to be New Jersey, but it may cause issues in places where they sniff the tailpipe every couple of years. It should be noted that the FI stuff is included in the deal. Aside from that carb - or perhaps because of that - the T3 is said to go and stop very well.

Other notable features of this 152K VW are the auxiliary battery and the claim that there's 'very little rust.' That of course is a subjective description so you might want to see if there's any place you can see through this bus other than the windows.

Those windows have the Westie curtains so even the modest can enjoy their camping clothes changes. There's also a pair of beds for sacking out, a table for your vittles consumption, and of course a small stove and a sink that looks like it came from an airplane bathroom.

All the Westie bits - including the pop-up canvas - looks to be in great shape. I mean, it's not creepy inside it at all and any little kid would feel no trepidation climbing in there to share some for your free candy or find your lost puppy.

Actually, it's not that kind of van at all. It does look kid-friendly however, and as you might know, these Westies are still hugely popular as both family vacation fodder and collectables for VW aficionados. The really rare examples - Sychro diesel camper et al - can and often do go for some serious change.

This one's $5,600, and that's not all that serious. In fact, that might make a prospective buyer pretty dang happy. Based on the ad, what do you think about that price? Does $5,600 seem like a good deal for this VW as described? Or, does it seem too tired to ask that much?

You decide!

South Jersey , or go if the ad disappears.

H/T to Reskaast for the hookup!

At $22,900 Canadian, Would You ‘RUF-It’ In This 2001 Porsche Boxster S?
Germany’s RUF is a well-known Porsche tuner/carmaker, but it is less well known for piecemeal work on cars like today’s Boxster S. Could that obscurity make this Canadian RUF a smooth deal? Yesterday, torches were lit while pitchforks were sharpened and mobs were formed. All of that hustle-bustle was...

Americans Love The 2022 VW Tiguan's Lies
One of the chief complaints about the first-generation Volkswagen Tiguan compact crossover (from American owners) was that it was a little too compact. The second generation fixed that in 2017 by stretching the model out enough to offer a third-row seat. The refresh doesn’t change much, but it’s still...

At $12,500, Could This 1990 Lexus ES 250 Drop You Into The Lap Of Luxury?
Entry-level luxury is an odd term but is epitomized by today’s Lexus ES 250. Could this well-preserved fancy Camry still have what it takes to command a near-premium price? It’s been a common mantra around here for quite a while to “Safari all the things!” That means to fit...
