For $5,900, This V8lvo Is A Box Launch-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:09

Certain things just seem to go together- peas and carrots, Uggs and booty shorts (no, I can't explain that one), and and cool cars that you can actually buy. Today's cool car that you can actually buy is a V8-powered Volvo, but do you think it and its price actually go together?

While its SR20DET may have given away yesterday's as a wolf disguised in the trappings of a sheep, its price wasn't pulling the wool over anybody's eyes, especially not the 55% of you who felt its price was still Crack Pipe worthy.

Today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe 240SX may be that marque's most nondescript body style, however…

Engine swaps - for some cars, it's like they're almost mandatory. In the case of Volvo's 7 series wagons, the act of popping the hood and gazing upon the vast open space surrounding the car's factory inline engines is something akin to what Jefferson must have felt upon surveying the results of his Louisiana purchase.

This electric blue originally sported the Swedish company's 180-ish horse B23 turbo four behind its upright and sash-wearing grille. It now offers up what's claimed to be 290-ponies at the wheels, all on account of a guest appearance by Chevy's lauded LT1.

Like a Spring Break wet tee-shirt contest a modestly proportioned wagon with a V8 is a . Add to that a Borg Warner T-56 6-speed gearbox and your head might assplode from the mere thought of driving this blue beast, as it is so equipped. Taming all that power at the back is what's said to be a G80 locker sporting a 3.73 gearset. The ad also notes that there's a bunch of extra parts that come with the car, so it's a good thing the 740 is so freaking commodious.

With 156,000 miles under its belt (50K on the Chevy mill) you might expect there to be some wear and tear, and in fact the seller says that it's not all Cabo and Wabo here. There are a couple of minor body imperfections noted in the pictures, the interior's beige, and there's an oil leak at the front of the engine that'll require some work - or a sturdy piece of cardboard.

The seller also says at the top of his ad that he has a PENDING SALE, but at the bottom notes that if the ad is still around, so is the car. His price is $5,900, and it's now time for you to determine if that's a fair deal for this V8 Volvo, or if that price is high enough for you to fall off the wagon.

You decide!

or go if the ad disappears - as it just might.

H/T to Civardi for the hookup!

All The Crazy Engineering Details That Make The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Actually Fascinating
All The Crazy Engineering Details That Make The 2019 Porsche Cayenne Actually Fascinating
Last month, Porsche flew me to Düsseldorf for the Porsche Cayenne Technology Workshop, where engineers in classrooms taught me detailed technical minutiae about what’s good on the new . The whole thing was extremely German, and that’s a very good thing. Here’s what I learned. Porsche’s money maker, the Cayenne,...

Today’s is incredibly clean for a car with over 200K on the clock. Let’s find out if it’s priced to clean out your wallet. Ford’s Fox Body Mustang has long been the bargain basement performance option with enough cheap aftermarket parts available to keep that performance going for years to...

Today’s ‘Stang as no A/C or heat. That may limit its attraction outside of the temperate zone, but we’ll still have to decide if it’s a car that’s cool enough that you might warm up to its price. So, last Friday’s had unidirectional wheels that—like opportunistic sex partners—went both ways....

Today’s Pontiac may presently call the Motor City home, but its roots are really from down under. Let’s see if its price could have you getting down to brass tacks. The license plate on yesterday’s started with the letters “GRR” and that was apropos considering the response to the car’s...

Growing Up With The Fiat Everyone Warns You About
Growing Up With The Fiat Everyone Warns You About
Before Fiat married Chrysler it was just Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino, but most people probably would have told you it stood for this: “Fix It Again, Tony.” My dad took this as a personal challenge and adopted a 1979 Spider 2000 in the ’90s. The car’s still in the family....

The Honda Civic SiR Hatchback Deserves To Be Saved
I drive a lot of cars for work. So much so, that my personal car, a 2004 Honda Civic SiR—or just the Civic Si, if you’re American—is rotting away in press office parking lots covered in bird turds, fuel tank dried up, brakes all seized up. The poor thing just...
