For $999, Try To Contain Your Enthusiasm For This 1994 Saab 900
For $999, Try To Contain Your Enthusiasm For This 1994 Saab 900-July 2024

Today's Saab has a crazy zebra skin hood and a sorry story to tell. It doesn't presently start, but will you find that its price is its finish?

It was pretty back and white yesterday that the was way overpriced, as fully 80% of you gave it a Crack Pipe vote. A lot of you also noted that for the kind of money that was being asked for it That Benz should have been in a lot better - read that less rust-bubbly - shape.

The Geländewagen, or G-wagon for the tongue-twisted, has been Mercedes Benz's hair shirt offering…

That Benz was one of those good from far but far from good cars that at first glance seem to hold a lot of appeal, but then on closer inspection prove to be a little pimply in places dulling the ardor they engender. Today's Saab on the other hand looks pretty rough from about any distance, but that doesn't mean it doesn't deserve some love.

Have you ever seen the movie Oldboy? I don't mean the wholly unnecessary Spike Lee joint - eff that shit - I mean the original Park Chan-wook film. Thats the one in which Choi Min-sik eats a live octopus and gets shoved into a trunk after 15 years of imprisonment. Of course neither of those parts are even remotely the most screwed up elements of the flick.

This has a lived through similar experience, having been shoved into a storage container for almost 2 years and possessing it's own odd affiliation with exotic fare by being zebra striped for some reason. There's even a mention in the ad of a pretty girl being a prior owner, and the one who did the zebra-ing. It's all too creepily analogous.

The present owner wants his storage container space back, and hence is looking to get rid of the Saab. He's not interested enough to figure out why it won't start as his life is SOOOOO busy, but I'm going to guess it had something to do with being left inanimate for almost two years. Perhaps a fresh battery and some non-skunk gas would be all it would take to put some fire in its hole.

The seller says that prior to its internment this Saab never left him stranded. It's too bad he couldn't reciprocate the favor. Now it looks to be in okay shape, although its left eye is busted pretty bad. There's no other description in the ad as the seller is far more interested in explaining how little time he has on his hands, but it does notes that the transmission is an automatic, and that there's 181,000 miles on the formerly container-kept car.

When someone wants something gone, they're usually less interested in the price than they are not seeing that particular item any more, and in this case it'll take a meager $999 to make it go a away for the seller. What do you think about this Oldcar for that kind of money? Based on the description in the ad does that seem like a fair deal? Or, is this a Saab story that doesn't need repeating?

You decide!

New Hampshire , or go if the ad disappears.

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 Diesel Is Too Little, Too Late
We’ve been hearing about the Mazda Skyactiv-D diesel engine . Now it’s finally, here in the 2019 . It’s a nice idea and the car itself is not bad to drive. I just don’t see many people buying it. Who is this car for? Why does it exist? These...

You Can Buy The First C6 Corvette Z06 For $79,000, But You Can't Take It On The Street
There’s some kind of odd mystique surrounding the “first” model made of any material item, even though no one can tell the difference and No. 2 onward are likely a lot cheaper. If you’re into firsts, though, the first example of the sixth-generation to roll off the line is...

The 390 cubic-inch 1968 Ford Mustang GT made famous by a very good car chase scene in Steve McQueen’s not very good detective film Bullitt was sold Friday by Mecum auctions in Kissimmee, Fla. for a massive $3.74 million. Before the auction the rumors in the room claimed the...

At $13,000, Would You Flex Over This 2013 Ford Flex SEL AWD?
Ford enters 2020 without a single traditional station wagon in its U.S. lineup, an inauspicious start to the new decade to be sure. Today’s Flex represents the last model they did sell. Let’s see if its price makes it a fitting bearer of that standard. You’ve no doubt noticed...
