As a sign of the variety and manufacturer support of current sports car racing, I would like to point out that to win the top GT class at the over the weekend, Ford had to beat teams from Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette and BMW. And that only accounts the top of two GT classes.

Ford’s GTs were running in the confusingly-named GT Le Mans category, and not included in GTLM was Acura, Mercedes, Audi, Lamborghini, Aston Martin and Lexus in the GT Daytona (GTD) class, ultimately won by Porsche.

Porsche has been extremely guarded about what’s behind the black louvered panel that hides the new…

You can get even more if you count the bottom privateer-level GS class competing in the Continental Challenge series, adding a number of McLarens, Mazdas, Mini and a lone Nissan Altima of all things. So many cars.

Now we just need a GT1-level top rung for the Koenigseggs, Paganis, McLaren P1s, LaFerraris and Porsche 918s of the world.

I've Suddenly Got A Great Idea For A Spec Racing Series
Among all the discussion about the new US Postal Service and its new mail delivery vehicle, my beater-addled mind immediately drifted to the idea of hundreds of thousands of well-used Chevrolet S10-based Grumman LLVs coming to market via government surplus auctions all over the country, and what could possibly...

Indy 500 Will Be Run With Some Fans Despite Nothing Having Changed Since Last Time
We all know the story of the 2020 Indy 500. First the race was pushed back from its May date thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic. Track owner Roger Penske was none too pleased by that, but vowed to , then lowered that number to 25 percent, but said he’d...

This weekend was an extraordinary one in the world of NASCAR. Just a week after the Daytona 500's pomp and circumstance, all three of the sanctioning body’s major national series were racing at Daytona International Speedway again, but this time on the slightly modified international road course. It was...

I Expect Nothing From Alfa Romeo's 2021 Formula 1 Car But At Least It Looks Great
For years, the Sauber Formula 1 team — racing officially for the last two seasons under the Alfa Romeo brand — has played the role of reliable backmarker. It’s not the worst-performing squad on the grid, mind you, with Haas prone to its flashes of life but ultimately hampered...

The Extreme E Racecar Fleet Will Be Recharged By Hydrogen Fuel Cells
Mostly because its inaugural season is yet to be run, I don’t particularly follow Extreme E. But the machines are and the series’ conceit is fresh. An announcement that the series will bring -based battery charging infrastructure everywhere the series travels has me intrigued. AFC Energy that it’s produced...
