Ford Says It May Not Be Able To Meet Maverick Demand
Ford Says It May Not Be Able To Meet Maverick Demand-November 2024

Ford Maverick Lariat

From the to the , Ford vehicles are in high demand. Also the Maverick, such that, surprisingly, as reports, the company says it probably won’t be able to make enough of them.

The Maverick has been a big seller for Ford. Despite bringing the price close to or more than the bigger F-150, customers can’t get enough of the small pickup. Ford just under 22,000 in the first three months of 2023. Thousands of other customers across the country have orders and are waiting for their Mavericks. And Ford’s Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Hermosillo, Mexico — where the Maverick is built — can’t keep up. Ford plans to add a third shift to the plant in July along with hiring 6,100 new plant workers (1,100 direct and 5,000 indirect) to help. But CEO Jim Farley says even that won’t be enough to satisfy demand.

Speaking during Ford’s shareholder call, Farley out the reality of the situation, admitting that the company underestimated the demand for the Maverick.

“Yeah, we’re going to have a capacity increase in July at the plant. That’ll help. Unfortunately, we completely under-called the demand for Mavericks. So, I’m not confident even with the capacity increase that we’re going to have a lot of Mavericks available to everyone. We still have – look, we have a ten day supply of the vehicle. You can find Mavericks. The capacity increase will help, but clearly, the vehicles hit a really positive nerve, especially with the U.S. consumer. And we’re doing everything we can to increase, especially our supply chain, to increase the production.”

Whatever needs to be done Ford needs to figure it out quickly. Scouring the , some buyers have been waiting over 10 months for their trucks. And while it seems that some may be willing to patiently wait, others may get fed up and go buy something else. And with the 2023 model year Maverick ending production in October, the order banks for the ‘24 models will open soon, making things worse.

This $78,000 Chevrolet Traverse Is Actually Pretty Awesome
This $78,000 Chevrolet Traverse Is Actually Pretty Awesome
I’m not one to be overly impressed by something as normal as a Chevrolet Traverse, let alone one that is pushing $80,000. But BraunAbility’s all-new wheelchair conversion of GM’s family crossover gives disabled drivers a super spacious and feature-packed mobility option. Though it doesn’t come cheap. Wheelchair-converted vehicles are...

Nic Hahn from Illinois recently became the new owner of a fascinating 1996 SL2 with only 3,800 miles on the odometer. The vehicle was a former engineering development car for one of ’ main air conditioning parts suppliers, and when Hahn bought the car a few months ago, there...

If you’re into wacky car builds, chances are or a few. Here is one jet car that likely inspired many future builds. Remember the flame-spitting Jet Beetle? for a jaw-dropping $550,000! This ludicrous Beetle is the a mechanical engineer with a PhD from Stanford University. He built it in...

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Is Not As Much Fun As A Real Mustang But It's Still Good
The is The Blue Oval’s first-ever high-volume electric car and an important step in keeping Ford competitive as the entire industry shifts towards EVs. I just drove the Mach-E for the first time, and while I wouldn’t call it exciting, it’s a good electric crossover SUV. ( Ford invited me...

At $2,400, Would You Get Around Town In This “Commuter” 2003 BMW 325i?
The seller of today’s 325i claims it to be a “solid commuter.” That runs counter to the model’s general reputation, but with a modest price, could it all potentially balance out? It was perhaps the early hour at which I checked the comments, or maybe I just tend to...

At $3,800, Would You Consider This 1987 Ford F-250 Diesel To Be Dually Noted?
With its dually back end, diesel V8 and four on the floor, today’s F-250 sure seems to have what it takes to get the job done. We’ll still have to decide if its price works for us. The federal government’s 25-year rule makes importing unmodified older cars legal. It...
