Building a brand identity is hard. Pepsi’s been , constantly changing and rebranding while Coke just stayed Coke. In the automotive world, it seemed Buick would follow that latter path forever: the same three shields, usually in three colors, have adorned the front of GM’s middle-luxury-kinda-ish brand . But now, it seems General Motors has decided to breathe new life into the tri-shield crest — by turning it into... hair clippers?

A shows a new brand identity for Buick. While the trademark drawing does look similar to the existing three shields, with the cross-bar angle and pointed bottom living on, the overall shape bears another, odder similarity. Take a look for yourself:

That’s an electric shaver. It more accurately represents , but I tragically left my Wahl clippers in a bathroom drawer while moving out of a college apartment so I can’t photograph them for a comparison. Trust me, the similarities are striking.

Of course, given the trademark tradition of using a single color to draw a logo against a white background, it’s tough to say exactly what the updated clipper-style logo would look like when adorning a car, dealership, or website. It may stay flat, sleek, and colorless, but modern design does seem to be ever-so-slowly shifting back towards skeumorphism — this logo actually gives Buick a chance to be ahead of the curve. Combine that with the classic tri-color badge, and we may just have the next step in Buick’s branding:

Buick, have your people talk to my people. We can make this happen.

I Made The Mistake Of Driving Two Of My Dream Cars
The problem with the second one was that it might be cursed. The problem with the first one was that it might be perfect. I finally got to drive two 1990s Toyota Crestas, dream cars of mine never originally sold in the United States, in the hopes that they’d...

At $26,995, Is This Rare 1994 Alpina BMW B3 3.0/1 An E36 We’d All Pine For?
Today’s Alpina is a grand cheaper on the dealer site than in its Craigslist ad, proving the value of Sherlockian sleuthing. No matter where it is, it’s wicked cool, but could its flexible price make it even cooler still? Do you like escargot? When prepared right, they are delicious—garlicky,...

The 2019 Honda Passport Is A Solid Casual Adventure SUV
The has been heavily marketed as . In reality, it can’t really do anything other small-medium SUVs can’t, but it’s a well-designed vehicle. If your expeditions are mostly around town and on the highway with some dirt miles in the mix, it’s hard to beat. (: I asked Honda’s...

At $5,900, Could This 2006 Infiniti QX56 Turn You Into A Wrap Artist?
With its vinyl-wrapped nose and donkalicious wheels, today’s QX56 certainly stands out. Let’s see if those attributes help make its price a standout too. It can be tough to be a single brand-focused automotive tuner. It’s an especially tough row to hoe when you have to compete against another...
