Got Any Good Car Poetry?
Got Any Good Car Poetry?-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:12:29

Shall I compare thee, 1984 900 Turbo 16S, to a summer’s day?

In Scotland tonight folks will be celebrating Burns Night, a night dedicated to the Scottish poet Robert Burns who was born this day in 1759. The Scots celebrate it with the reading of his poetry (especially his poem “Address to a Haggis”’) and the consumption of Scottish food and drink. The main focus, however, is sharing poetry with the folks you gather together.

I love the concept of Burns night. I think every country should have a holiday devoted to its literary and cultural heroes. I couldn’t think of any car poems off the top of my head, but a quick search found several from literary heavyweights like T.S. Elliot and the beat poet Gregory Corso who wrote a poem called ‘Last Night I Drove A Car.’

I also thought of the time Brad Brownell and I listened to every Mountain Goats song for fun. That’s just poetry set to music!

If an artist writes enough music, they’re going to eventually touch on a lot of subjects…

I especially like this line from the song Insurance Fraud #2:

Burned-out shell of a Volkswagen,

Bloodstains on the driveway,

Torn up Mercedes, by the side of the highway

Big plans, big plans

Let me tell you, something sister,

You will never get away with it.

So I think we can definitely allow song lyrics into the mix. But it doesn’t have to be from a professional wordsmith. Maybe you’ve personally felt moved to pen a few lines about your ride. Got a haiku about your WRX rolling around in your soul? A dirty limerick about your rust bucket of a Corolla? Share it in the comments!

We Should Have Bought Six-Speed V6 Honda Accord Coupes When We Had the Chance
“What’s a V6 that doesn’t sound like crap,” Regular Car Reviews’ host Mr. Regular asks from behind the wheel of somebody’s 2016 Honda Accord V6 six-speed manual coupe. He immediately answers his own question: “This.” The current tenth generation Honda Accord is a great getaround car, but unfortunately for...

Tesla Achieves Record Deliveries in Second Quarter, Loses Two More Executives
In classic Tesla fashion, there was both good news and bad news out of the electric carmaker today, because nothing can ever be simple with them. The good news is the company set records for production (87,048 vehicles) and deliveries (95,200) in the second quarter, rebounding nicely from the...

The 2020 BMW X6 Finally Has the Illuminated Kidney Grille You've Been Begging For
There’s a new Sports Activity Vehicle crossover don’t-call-it-a-coupe in town. The new generation of BMW X6 is here, and it’s longer, wider, and vertically shorter than the one it replaces. But more important than that, BMW says the massive kidney grille on the front of the new big boy...

Canadian Guy Climbs into Someone Else's Corvette and Tries to Claim It as His
I think somebody may have misunderstood how work. That somebody is a with an open roof, sat in the driver’s seat, and claimed the car was his. The owner of the car, and later the Vancouver police, disagreed. The attempted theft-by-sitting happened this past Sunday in a parking lot...
