Hell Yes KTM Is Planning New Mid-Size V-Twins
Hell Yes KTM Is Planning New Mid-Size V-Twins-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:25

KTM has been kicking ass on both ends of the engine displacement spectrum, but like the rest of the industry, something's been missing – mid-size V-twins. KTM is finally rectifying matters and spreading the wealth to its siblings at Husqvarna.

, KTM head Stefan Pierer said, "We will have a new KTM mid-class of bikes within around three years. We are looking at the way this will happen, but we are working on 600 to 800cc V-twins."

Those new twins will slot into the company's street bike line up nicely, with the 1190 and 1290 tourers, sport bikes, and nakeds at the top of the range and the single-cylinder RC 390 and 390 Duke – – bringing up the rear.

If you're hankering for a great-handling, lightweight, attainable, fully-faired or naked thumper,…

Right now, the only thing KTM offers in the mid-range is the 690 Duke and Duke R thumpers. And we've been pining for a some new blood in the twins segment, with the Suzuki V-Strom 650, Aprilia Dorsoduro and Shiver 750s, and ye ol' Ducati Monster 696 growing long in the tooth.

Pierer also says the engines will find their way into some new Husqvarnas, which will be part of a broader push to bring more Husky road bikes to market. That includes new engines with displacements ranging from 125 to 1,300cc. Three years is a long time to wait, but waiting is something we're all too accustomed.
