From this, it looks like the base model is the best bang-for-your-buck option. That is, of course, if you can even find a base model on the dealer lot. And most buyers probably don’t want just the base. Features like Ford’s driver safety assist technology will also come as standard equipment here, which definitely helped in bringing up the price.

Also note that this is the first time that Ford will offer an ST version of the Explorer, so it’s been compared it to the old Explorer Sport. I have no idea what kind of price hike an ST badge warrants, but it seems like it’s an $8,000 one. For that extra money, you’ll also get sport-tuned suspension, exclusive wheels and additional safety features

The Explorer pricing starts to make a little more sense when you consider the . It’s built on the new Explorer’s platform, so it’s basically the Explorer with a fancy suit on. And it starts at $51,100. That is not a cheap SUV! But I guess that’s our new reality—big cars for big prices.
