Here’s the Ford Mustang That Will Race in NASCAR’s Top Series Next Year
Here’s the Ford Mustang That Will Race in NASCAR’s Top Series Next Year-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:13

The is in the North American market, meaning it doesn’t make sense for to keep running a Fusion-wrapped rear-wheel-drive V8 on the track every weekend in ’s top series. Ford’s bringing in the , which there are , to take its place next year.

Ford debuted the new Mustang on Thursday, and it looks about like you’d expect—a smoothed-down version of the production body, with stickers for headlights and racing slicks on it. The cool part is, , the street Mustang actually has a RWD V8 option.

Ford announced earlier this year that the Mustang would be its new Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series car starting in 2019, since Ford’s out of the North American market over the next few years except for the Mustang and Focus Active. But in NASCAR, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies about replacing the family sedan with an actual muscle car.

Ford has been dominant with the Fusions in the Cup Series this season, and according to the , driver Brad Keselowski said introducing the car could go either way. It could be great, or it could go like intro has this year—slowly and frustratingly.

Of 22 Cup Series races this year, Chevy’s won two. The other manufacturers, Ford and Toyota, have won all of the others. Here’s what Keselowski said, from the Detroit News:

“The big question mark for us is, when Chevrolet built a car and Toyota built their car, they pretty much knew what the rules were going to be, for the next season,” Keselowski said.

“This year, probably more so than any year I’ve ever been a part of, there’s such a question as to what the rules are going to be for next year,” he said.

“I think it’s very hard to predict whether the Mustang is going to come out next year and be the best car, or come out next year and be the worst car.”

Either way, it’ll probably make things interesting.

How To Completely Bork A Standing Race Start
One of the most, erm, challenging things about Pirelli World Challenge is the standing start. Either your reactions are on their A-game and your car is working as it should or you're going to be left behind. Let's look at when that all goes wrong, shall we? This was from...

More Proof That Drag Racing Is Harder Than It Looks
If you were looking for a summation of everything that makes drag racing bonkers, here you go. You're riding with 74-year-old Bill Dunlap in a nostalgic front-engined top fuel dragster at the recent 2015 Good Vibrations March Meet. He gets up on one front tire, crosses the center line, then...

Nutz For A Cause: This B-Spec Car With Truck Nutz Is The Best Thing Ever
When I joked about with Truck Nutz, I had no idea I'd actually find a pair in the Pirelli World Challenge paddock. Many race cars race in support of charities, but Timothy Mincey Sr.'s Testicular Cancer Foundation-sponsored car is particularly on the ball(s) with it. Look at deez nutz. Look...

This Onboard Of A Rally Car Crashing Into A Lake Is Utterly Terrifying
Crashing is bad enough. Rolling down a hill into a lake is probably the worst case scenario, ever.
