It’s difficult to overstate how influential the original was upon its global release in 1998. Sony was aware of this, as you can tell from that grandiose marketing claim you see above, from a print ad in the run-up to the game’s release that, yeah — actually turned out to be entirely valid.

Recently John Linneman explored the series’ past with a focused on the franchise’s PlayStation and PlayStation 2 entries. It explains, from studio Polyphony Digital’s inception to the game’s release and beyond, how the team was dedicated to pushing the capabilities of the original PlayStation, hardware that would be considered extremely rudimentary by today’s standards. They succeeded, realizing a quality of driving simulation that wasn’t thought possible in the late ’90s.

This two-part YouTube deep dive is a combined two hours exploring the games that made Gran Turismo a household name, as well as a number of titles that tried to capitalize on the attention — like Sega GT 2002 and Forza Motorsport. If you’re nerdy about these things, it’s a must-watch. It also ends with a comparison of the Nürburgring Nordschleife as recreated in four different titles — an especially interesting segment, because Forza’s Green Hell isn’t green at all, and the rendition of the famed circuit in Enthusia: Professional Racing is profoundly upsetting if you suffer from seasonal depression.

Watch ’em both and reminisce on those halcyon days before and .

The Karma Revero GT, which you might have called the “Karma Revero” or the “Fisker Karma” in the past, will have a new setup powering it in 2020. Because that setup leans heavily electric, the powertrain of silence, the Revero will also feature some fake “engine” noise in order...

Donald Trump Doesn't Know Shit About Cars
Donald Trump Doesn't Know Shit About Cars
Right off the bat, I’d like to remind everybody that’s considering banging out angry emails about “politics” and “bias” that I think it’s important to revisit the idea that powerful politicians don’t know shit about cars because, A. they don’t and 2., they make policies based on not knowing...

Metz — 'Wet Blanket'
Traffic sucks, so why not start your morning off with some music? You provide the toast and we’ll provide the jams. I, for one, like to start off my weeks with the most kick-ass head-bangingest tunes I can possibly find. Frequently, that means a lot of Metz on Mondays. ...

If you’re a car salesperson, you’ve got to know your product cold. You can’t be blindsided by questions about color combinations and trim levels. But you also need to know something else. Something even more important. If you want to sell some 1970 Dodge Monacos, you better know your...

What Is The Best Car To Turn Into A Time Machine?
What Is The Best Car To Turn Into A Time Machine?
As we all know, the most famous example of a car turned into a machine to travel through time, not just space, is the DeLorean used in the Back to the Future movies. While dramatic and looking good for a movie, I’m not convinced this is actually a good...
