Harley-Davidson debuted the Softail platform in 1984. Six years later, in 1990, The Motor Company introduced the Fat Boy, a Softail that would become one of the most recognizable motorcycles due to its role in the 1991 film, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Its silver finish would earn the 1990 Fat Boy the nickname “Gray Ghost,” a moniker that was originally applied to a single-cylinder Harley from the early 1900s.Related: First Ride of the 2025 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Gray Ghost Icons Edition!.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Fat Boy, earning it the spot as the 2025 Harley-Davidson Icons Collection model. And as a nod to the original 1990 Gray Ghost, the 2025 Harley-Davidson Icons Collection Fat Boy Gray Ghost will be limited to 1,990 units. The finish on the tank and fenders of the 2025 Gray Ghost is called Reflect. It is not paint, but a physical vapor deposition process, which uses vaporized aluminum in a vacuum to achieve the shine and appearance of chrome. For 2025, all Softail models are powered by the Milwaukee-Eight 117ci V-twin. To increase output and improve fuel economy, The Motor Company updated the 117 with redesigned combustion chambers, oval intake ports, and low-profile intake valve seats. All Softail models also receive lean-sensitive ABS and traction control. Three ride modes are available on the Fat Boy Gray Ghost: Sport, Road, and Rain. Adjustments can be made via a 5-inch console-mounted speedometer and LCD display.
Before hitting our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, the Gray Ghost weighed 696 pounds on our automotive scales. On the Cycle World dyno, the 2025 Harley-Davidson Icons Collection Fat Boy Gray Ghost produced 89.8 hp at 4830 rpm and 111.6 lb.-ft. of torque at 6630 rpm. For reference, the 2023 Harley-Davidson Breakout 117 produced 94.3 hp and 118 lb.-ft. of torque. But with virtually 80 lb.-ft. of torque available off idle, the Gray Ghost powerplant delivers a punch of American muscle as soon as you roll into the throttle.
