Adventure bikes are great at everything. Designed to tackle off-road terrain and shred twisty pavement without breaking stride. But they are equally equipped to crush highway miles in perfect comfort, be practical for commuting, and carry luggage. And while every manufacturer offers a motorcycle that does this, no one has defined the category as much as the BMW GS. BMW introduced an all-new R 1300 GS in 2024, replacing the outgoing 1250 model. The new bike was a total rethink for BMW, with the design goals being smaller, lighter, and slimmer, without sacrificing power, comfort, or electronic gadgets. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }A new sheet metal shell frame replaces the outgoing steel tube chassis, the transmission has been mounted under the engine for better weight distribution, the new bike is 26 pounds lighter, and it makes more horsepower and torque than ever before. BMW’s R 1300 GS Adventure ups the ante for globetrotting motorcyclists with a larger 7.9-gallon fuel tank and longer-travel suspension. Our test unit was also fitted with BMW’s new optional Automated Shift Assistant (ASA). Powering the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure is the same 1300cc boxer engine introduced to the standard R 1300 GS in 2024. The bore measurement has increased 4mm to 106.5mm and the stroke measurement has reduced by 3mm to 73mm. Compression ratio has increased from 12.5 to 13.3:1. BMW’s variable valve timing, ShiftCam technology modulates larger 44mm intake valves while the 35.6mm exhaust valves run a single cam profile.
Before hitting our in-house Dynojet 250i dynamometer, the GSA with Automated Shift Assistant weighed 623 pounds on our automotive scales. On the Cycle World dyno, the 2025 BMW R 1300 GS Adventure produced 129.2 hp at 7930 rpm and 95.5 lb.-ft. of torque at 6510 rpm. For reference, the 2021 BMW R 1250 GS produced 117.4 hp at 7770 rpm and 91.5 lb.-ft. of torque at 6510 rpm. BMW’s R 1300 GS Adventure has one of the best dyno charts in all of motorcycling. Riders have access to nearly 85% of maximum torque from idle to 8000 rpm and the horsepower curve is about as straight as an arrow. Whether you are short-shifting through town or spinning the revs up on a backroad, the engine provides instant response at every rpm.
