Hyundai's Veloster N Production To Officially End
Hyundai's Veloster N Production To Officially End-February 2024

2022 Hyundai Veloster N

Another hot hatch bites the dust. A report out of Korea from and sources close to the company speaking to says that Hyundai is discontinuing the final iteration of its Veloster hatchback, the Veloster N, effectively killing the model.

While the end of the hottest little hatchback sucks, none of this is really surprising. Hyundai has sent many signs indicating the Veloster has been on its deathbed since last year. In the spring of 2021, on the Veloster had dried up at dealers. All the while the company gave the public a cryptic non-confirmation that the Veloster was here to stay. Then that summer, the company . Now it’s official. Sources close to the company say that Hyundai will stop production of the Veloster at its Ulsan, South Korea plant in July. The reasoning for it is all too familiar: crossovers.

Hyundai’s Kona has proven a popular seller for the brand, and the recent introduction of the performance version of the Kona N has proved to be another nail in the coffin for the Veloster, basically taking the Veloster’s place.Add in the Elantra N, and it appears the company sees no need for the Veloster N in the lineup. This is a strange position to take seeing as the Veloster has been available for nearly 12 years. However, sales haven’t been that hot, with only 191 Veloster’s sold in . That’s a 22 percent decrease from the year prior.

Honestly, it’s been a long time coming for the Veloster. The hot hatch’s quirkiness doesn’t appeal to everyone. The death of the Veloster N means hot hatches are more endangered than ever before. So, put your money where your mouth is and go buy one before they’re all gone.

Why Car Reviews Suck And How To Fix Them
Why Car Reviews Suck And How To Fix Them
We've read thousands of car reviews online. We remember almost none of them. The Internet, which has done so much to make journalism diverse and exciting, has somehow only made car reviews more indistinct and boring. The standard modern review is still written for someone flipping through bound-together sheets of...

McLaren MP4-12C: The Jalopnik Review
The 2012 MP4-12C is McLaren Automotive's first attempt at a sports car for the regular wealthy, not the ones with unicorn stables at their million-square-foot ectopods in Jackson Hole Nebula. But is it too nerdy, and not sexy enough? We found out. ( McLaren wanted us to drive the 2012...

Hyundai Veloster Turbo: The Jalopnik Review
Hyundai Veloster Turbo: The Jalopnik Review
Hyundai can be thought of as a group of willful amnesiacs who happen to build cars. Outside of old fellows in Argentina with oddly Teutonic accents, I can't think of a group of people less willing to talk about their past. We all know Hyundai wasn't always a name associated...

For $10,000, Is This MX-5 A Me-Ought-A?
While not quite small enough to be a petri dish, Mazda's littlest sports car certainly does engender experimentation. With its RB25, today's MX-5 is a willing research subject, but will its price prove that where there's a will there's a way? So far this week BMWs have gone two for...

For $7,500, This BMW Is DIY
Much like a four-door Cinderella, BMW's 7-series has never been invited to the M-Car ball. Sometimes all it takes is a fairy godmother to make things right, and while today's E23 demands more of a lead foot than a glass slipper, will its price turn it into a pumpkin? I...
