If The New Craigslist App Had Come Any Sooner My Life Would Be In Shambles
If The New Craigslist App Had Come Any Sooner My Life Would Be In Shambles-April 2024

For the last 10 years or so, I’ve spent most of my life browsing two websites: Jalopnik and . Read about cars, buy cars, wrench on cars—that’s my life’s motto, and it’s been serving me damn well (). Right now, I own 11-ish automobiles, which, you could argue, is too many, but I’d own far, far more had the come a few years sooner. I thank the heavens it didn’t.

I purchased my back in 2010, having spotted the 1992 Jeep Cherokee with 215,000 miles on the clock for sale on Craigslist near Charlottesville, Virginia. I paid $1,400 for it, or about $500 under the asking price. After all, Craigslist etiquette, as we all know, requires that the purchase price be markedly lower than the asking price.

Like everyone, I started surfing Craigslist because I wanted to snag sweet deals. Though I was…

All through college, and even when I entered the workforce in 2013, I spent hours each day on my laptop browsing the internet for sweet old automobiles. I even bought a few, and . But when a laptop wasn’t nearby, I rarely bothered trying to access the website from my cell phone. This, I’ve come to realize, was a blessing, as my impulse control when it comes to certain automobiles (manual transmission Jeeps, namely) is basically .

Here’s a bit more about the app from our sister-site, :

Like the website, the mobile app is extremely simple—no frills, bells, or whistles. The app’s overall design mimics the website as well, meaning its mostly just text and a clean interface. As you’d imagine, that makes the app extremely fast and easy to load. There’s also a post tab that streamlines posting straight from your phone. Not that making a Craigslist post was ever hard, but the app does make the process a lot smoother.

Now that the app is out, am I worried that I’ll wind up filling my yard with automobiles like Michigan’s Ron Dauzet—the man whose township forced him to sell all of his cars—did? Nope. Craigslist is pretty much dead in my eyes. Between the they charge to list an automobile, and the existence of Facebook Marketplace, it seems there are fewer and fewer cool cars on the site, and while I bet this app will yield some improvements on that front, I don’t think I’ll be returning. At least, not as often as I once did.

Facebook Marketplace has its own share of problems, but as of now, it’s my go-to. Is it as good as a solid Craigslist app would have been about five or six years ago? I don’t think so, but that’s probably a good thing. For me, at least.

Forum Trashes BMW Owner Who Had M3 Delivered In Wrong Shade Of Blue
If you are dealing with a high-priced luxury or sports car, it is almost 100% impossible to complain about that vehicle on the Internet without someone alleging that you sound like a whiny prick. One M3 buyer who says he got screwed over by BMW is learning that lesson right...

For $1,300, Looks Aren’t Everything
It goes without saying that in general Toyota’s Camry is the automotive equivalent of warm milk laced with Ambien. Contrastingly, today’s All-Trac is ugly enough to keep you up at night, but is its price worth losing sleep over? Trying to sell a heavily customized car or truck is akin...

For $12,000, What The El?
Called “El Cedes”, by its seller, today’s custom El Camino carries so much audacity that you may wonder if it has room for anything else. Of course it’s up to you to determine if its price is also weighing it down. When given the choice at a fine dining establishment,...

2014 Lexus IS: The Jalopnik Review
The entry level luxury sport sedan game is mad fierce, y’all. In that segment the Lexus IS has always been the kind of car that finishes solidly in the middle of the pack. With a (mostly) new IS for 2014, Lexus aims to change that. (: Lexus needed me to...

For $6,900, What’s A Ute?
Ned Flanders drove a Metro, and when implored by his wife Maude to go faster so as to escape a clingy Homer Simpson, he screamed I can’t, it’s a Gee-ohhh! Today’s Nice Price or Crack Pipe custom pickup may be similarly lethargic and Geo-riffic, but will you find its price...

1967 BMW 1602: The Jalopnik Classic Review
If you ever come across the opportunity to drive one of BMW's Neue Klasse (New Class) cars, you need to seize it. Even 50 years after they first debuted they're just as good as you've heard, if not better. I've always had a love for these cars. I love their...
