The 2019 I-Pace has generated plenty of buzz, with the automaker expecting it to produce 240 miles of range on a single charge. The official result, per multiple reports, is that Jaguar landed a fewmiles shy of that target, clocking in at 234 total.

The figure had yet to be posted on the government’s website, but InsideEVs says Jaguar confirmed the I-Pace’s official mark is 234 miles, just shy of the Tesla Model X with a 75 kWh battery pack. Jaguar outfitted the I-Pace with a 90 kWh pack.

The reason why it falls short of the Model X (as well as the Chevy Bolt or Hyundai Kona EV)? :

It all boils down to efficiency and that’s where the I-Pace falters.

The MPGe numbers for the I-Pace are as follows:

80 MPGe City

72 MPGe Highway

76 MPGe Combined

The EV-centric website characterizes this as “downright awful” for a modern day electric vehicle, and maybe from a cost perspective, that makes sense. Save for the Bolt and the new Nissan Leaf, electric cars by and large are expensive rides, but 234 miles still manages to handle virtually all driving scenarios.

If anything, it’s nice to see we’re at a point now where we’re at just 234 miles.
