Kia EV6: Charged Up To Rule

The sound of speed

Now you see it, now you don’t. You hear a menacing ‘whoosh’, the sound of speed. There’s a gravitas to the silence that ensues. This doesn’t feel like anything else you’ve witnessed before. It just has to be a Kia EV6, then. Other EVs don’t quite get ‘soul’ the way the EV6 does.

Performance forms the core of the Kia EV6. Uncompromised, memorable, spirited… it’s an endless list of adjectives, all of which apply to the inherently agile attitude of an EV6. It’s fast, involving, and makes every drive - yes, even the Monday morning commute to your swanky business district office - unforgettable. That it’ll unfailingly turn heads as you roll up to your designated parking bay is just a given, right? This is just one of the six reasons why we think the Kia EV6 is, potentially, the best EV out there. We’ve told you about one-half of them in our previous story, and the rest are to follow.

Speed

The Kia EV6 isn’t fast by coincidence. It was designed to be so. Its aerodynamic lines, accentuated by its active air flaps, are a clear giveaway of the EV6’s intent; here’s a car that approaches speed in the most evocative way, rather than it being a mere function or a by-product of its staggering output figures. Speaking of which, the EV6’s electric motor does generate a mammoth 605Nm of torque, which is good enough to melt the access road leading to your aforementioned business district office.

What this translates to is spectacular performance. How about instantaneous acceleration? Not enough? Do you like the sound of 0-100kph in 5.2s? That’s what you get, with an EV6. You can switch it between AWD and RWD in just 0.4s, giving you immediate control in varying grip conditions. The EV6 may have tremendous road presence, but it has a nuanced agility that’s almost impossible to comprehend. It’s a serious thrill machine - when you want it to be, that is.

Safety

A car is only as fast as it can keep you safe; any speed beyond the reach of safety is redundant. The Kia EV6 is a shining example of intelligent safety and comes equipped with an impressive list of active safety features. Its suite of 8 airbags itself makes it amply equipped to protect occupants in the event of a collision, but there’s more, too.

Kia EV6 Head-Up Display (HUD)

The dual LED headlamps feature an Adaptive Driving Beam, which adjusts automatically in order to avoid dazzling oncoming vehicles. The EV6 also offers an Augmented Reality head-up display, which projects essential information (speed, lane indication etc.) onto the windscreen in an intuitive layout. You also get Surround View Monitoring and a very thoughtful Safe Exit Assist which automatically activates the child lock along with a warning sound, in the event of an occupant attempting to open the door unaware of an approaching vehicle.

ADAS

Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is one of the most important inclusions in the Kia EV6’s safety package. With more than 10 ADAS features, the EV6 makes a strong case for driver control and safety. Key amongst these features is its Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) and Lane Keep Assist (LKA), both of which can prove incredibly useful in challenging situations. The EV6 also offers Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist and Rear-Cross Traffic Avoidance Assist; the latter warns the driver of a vehicle or pedestrian crossing the EV6’s path when reversing and can even automatically assist with emergency braking if the need arises.

Do you really need any more reason to believe the Kia EV6 is truly among the best EVs out there? We certainly don’t. It blends style with substance, performance with safety and luxury with a sense of responsibility towards the environment. That’s what makes it a true global superstar; a modern car with a futuristic attitude, and yet one that makes you feel right at home. What a car!
