When Toyota in the United States for the 2022 model year, many decried the loss of Toyota’s top-shelf SUV. Its Lexus cousin, however, won’t be leaving us so soon — instead, we’re getting a brand new version of the flagship family hauler.

The updated LX is expected to share the GA-F platform, which Toyota claims resulted in 440 lbs of weight savings on the Cruiser. Numbers may vary given the Lexus’s luxury appointments, but don’t be surprised if the new LX comes down a weight class from the outgoing model.

The quick-cut trailer doesn’t reveal much of the upcoming SUV

The LX 600 is also expected to share the new Cruiser’s twin-turbo V6, making 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. With 3.5 liters of displacement, it’s unclear what (if anything) the 600 in the SUV’s name now means. Power, in kilowatts, doubled? Torque, in newton-meters, rounded to the nearest 100?

The new LX, like the outgoing model, is expected to compete with comically large body-on-frame SUVs like the Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, and Infiniti QX80. The Lexus’s turbocharged engine may be aiming for a leg up on the segment’s historically dismal fuel economy, but time (and EPA test cycles) will tell if it’s effective.

Given the teaser’s dusty, unpaved setting, it’s likely Lexus will continue to lean into the off-road prowess of their largest SUVs. The LX and GX are known for , and the gives Lexus an opportunity to stake their claim to the luxury off-road market.

The upcoming LX will be fully revealed in a on October 13. Lexus hasn’t confirmed whether the outgoing model’s Nori Green paint will be returning, but they should be warned that I will riot if it doesn’t.

At $110,000, Could You Get Wrapped Up In This 2012 McLaren MP4-12C?
It’s said that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, and today’s McLaren certainly has a devilishly misleading look. Let’s see if this cleverly wrapped supercar has an equally clever price. I think the three best-known U.S. military transport vehicles are, in order of importance, the Jeep, the...

The seller of today’s N Comanche says it was converted to 4WD from its original 4X2 base. Let’s see if this midi-pickup’s price is low enough to get you to convert in its favor. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that there was something...

It’s Time To Treat Yourself To An Awesome Deal On A Fiat 124 Convertible
Even though 2020 is coming to a close it seems like social distancing will be the norm in 2021. I can think of no better way to enjoy the outdoors, away from other people than some top-down motoring. , and that means deals! When Fiat announced that it would...

At $59,500, Could This 1979 Ferrari 400 GT Be A Grand Tourer That’s A Great Deal?
While the 400 may have been the first Ferrari model to offer an automatic transmission, today’s GT eschews that convenience for an old school clutch pedal and manual shift. Let’s see if its price has you clutching at your pearls. Hey, do you remember last year? I know, for...

Wrapping Up 2020 for 'Nice Price or No Dice'
Another year is in the books, and as 2020 was all kinds of a crap year, we shall be burning those books posthaste. That’s not before we delve into all the cars, the votes and the changes that made up in 2020. This is the fourth year in a...

At $56,000, Would You Add This Retro-Modded 2006 Dodge Durango To Your Motor Pool?
A remarkable amount of work has gone into today’s Durango to turn it into a reasonable approximation of a classic WWII WC Wagon. Let’s see if its price seems just as reasonable. If you are going to spend less than a grand for a running, driving car, you shouldn’t...
