Magpul Is Bringing A One-Off EBR 1190RX Ronin Racer To Pikes Peak
Magpul Is Bringing A One-Off EBR 1190RX Ronin Racer To Pikes Peak-September 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:22

We’ve said plenty about Magpul’s Ronin series, 47 custom bikes built from some of the last Buell 1125Rs in existence. But this one is special. Not only does it carry the distinction of being the first in the production series, it’s built off EBR’s latest superbike, and now it’s headed to Pikes Peak.

Magpul is taking its Ronin No. 1 – which goes by the name Oishi Yoshio – to the 93rd running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb later this month, and Travis Newbold, a regular on the mountain, will be at the helm running in the Heavyweight class.

The Oishi was built as a dedicated racer and there are two, the prototype shown here, which will act as a back-up, and the one Newbold will racing up the hill. Both bikes have the larger 72-degree, 1190cc V-twin, putting out 185 HP and 102 lb-ft, and unlike the “other” 46 Ronins, it has a chain drive. It’s also coated in an unique color scheme that Magpul (né Ronin Motorworks) says is a nod to the anime Genesis Climber Mospeada.

As for Newbold, he seems after his initial outing:

The first ride was a pretty darn good success. This is the secondary race bike. The primary one is going to be mental! I was pleased to find the Ronin handled very well. I pushed it harder and harder all day and did not have one single moment that the tires did not track like rails. The next month is going to be a lot of fun as I get more seat time. I am one lucky fucker!

Indeed, you are Mr. Newbold.
