More Rain And Misery At Watkins Glen Red-Flags Today's Race
More Rain And Misery At Watkins Glen Red-Flags Today's Race-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:40

Standing water forced United SportsCar to red-flag today’s 6 Hours of The Glen for a brief period. In the meantime, drivers were huddling in their cars on pit lane, trying to stay warm.

Some cars had covers to keep water off of them, but I’m not sure if that’s better or worse if you’re sitting inside. The Mazda Prototype driver looked like he was in a tent.

Before the red flag, they threw a full-course yellow for a short period of time. Visibility was miserable, and the chance of hydroplaning even behind the safety car kept getting worse and worse. It was raining harder than it was yesterday, but it wasn’t as bad yet since it had been mostly dry today.

After streams of standing water started to form, they threw a red flag, moving everyone back into pit lane.

The red flag lasted for 14 minutes and one second, and the drivers are now back out circulating under yellow.

There’s only a little over an hour to go and the clock continued to run under the red flag, so nothing has been delayed per se. The last hour should be interesting if it gets wetter again, though. It’s cold, wet and miserable, and only the most die-hard fans seem to be left in the uncovered stands.

The track just went green for a brief period again, and Oliver Gavin promptly stuffed the #4 Le Mans winning Corvette into a wall outside Turn 1 as the #912 Porsche 911 spun off in the opposite direction. Ouch!

Cars are now back under a full-course yellow while the number 4 car is retrieved.

Green flag! Behold the utter insanity as cars struggle to find grip.

A full-course yellow is back on after Ricky Taylor ate the wall, spun back onto the track into Joey Hand’s #01 car, then went into the pits. The #22 Porsche plowed off the track as well, taking a shortcut through the grass. It’s still very slippery.

This Is The SCG 003C After It Crashed Into A Wall At 125 MPH
Yes, unfortunately Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus lost one car for this weekend when Maccinadue hit a wall at 200 km/h at the Kesselchen during practice yesterday. The good news is that everybody is fine as worked perfectly. The car was driven by Ken Dobson when the accident happened. The track was...

F1 Is Bringing Back Refueling
F1 Is Bringing Back Refueling
The biggest change yesterday’s Formula One Strategy Group passed involves bringing back a practice that was banned to save costs: refueling. They also started work on a proposal “to ensure the sustainability of the sport,” per , but initial rumors as to what that may involve aren’t exactly flattering. Before...

Take A Deep Dive Into The Car That Might Just Win The Nürburgring 24
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus didn’t leave anything to the last minute with the , and the team was pretty much ready to hit the Ring on Tuesday already. Yet that doesn’t mean they didn’t strip both cars bare naked numerous times for some final adjustments before the first practice laps, and...

There Are Much Worse Places To Do Laundry Than The Nürburgring
There Are Much Worse Places To Do Laundry Than The Nürburgring
I hate doing laundry so much that I usually drop it off somewhere and make a wash-and-fold joint do it. All that waiting and sitting at home. Grooooan. One spectator at the Nürburgring figured out how to make laundry tolerable, though: she set up right outside one of the turns...

All The Cool Cars From Today's Nürburgring 24 Practice
That’s a Motörhead 1 Series at the Nürburgring, and no, there will be no more mention of in this post, because I’ll have plenty about Jim and Co. later. Also, no Nissan GT-R either, because for some reason, I’m just not interested in them. I know it’s wrong and it’s...
