Musk picks April 1 2026, April Fool’s day for Tesla Roadster unveiling
Musk picks April 1 2026, April Fool’s day for Tesla Roadster unveiling-April 2024
2025-11-07 EST 17:28:25

What Happened: After years of anticipation and multiple delays, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has finally set a date for the unveiling of the production version of the second-generation Tesla Roadster April 1, 2026.

The announcement came during Teslas annual shareholder meeting on Thursday, marking nearly nine years since Musk first revealed plans for the high-performance electric supercar. In classic Musk fashion, the date itself was chosen with a dose of irony. I chose April Fools Day because it affords some deniability, he quipped, adding, I could say I was just kidding if it happens to be later. The new timeline comes just a week after Musk appeared on Joe Rogans podcast, where he suggested that the Roadster might debut by the end of 2025. The CEO reiterated that the upcoming model will be very different from what was shown previously, promising what he called the most exciting, whether it works or not, demo ever of any product.

Why Is This Important: The next-generation Roadster has been one of the most elusive vehicles in Teslas history a project that has come to symbolise both the companys bold ambition and Musks struggle with deadlines.

Originally unveiled in 2017, the Roadster was pitched as the worlds fastest production car, capable of reaching 060 mph in under two seconds. Musk has since teased the inclusion of SpaceX-designed cold-gas thrusters, raising speculation that the car could even achieve limited flight capabilities an engineering feat that, if realized, could redefine automotive innovation.

Why Should I Care: For Tesla fans and EV enthusiasts, the Roadster represents the pinnacle of Musks performance and design vision.

Preorder holders, some of whom paid $250,000 for the Founders Series edition, have been waiting for over seven years for delivery. One of those early supporters was OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who recently shared his failed attempt to cancel his reservation and obtain a refund, sparking a brief spat with Musk on X (formerly Twitter). Musk responded that Altmans refund had been processed within 24 hours, adding a jab that its in your nature to leave that part out. Recommended Videos Whats Next: Musk said production will likely begin 12 to 18 months after the 2026 reveal, putting the Roadsters release window between mid-2027 and early 2028.

As Tesla works to finalise its long-promised supercar, the world will be watching not only to see if Musk delivers this time, but also whether the Roadster can truly live up to its hype as the car that redefines whats possible in electric performance.
